3. Gelato – Best for Global Shipping

gelato homepage - best print on demand companies

One of the most significant challenges print-on-demand presents is that reaching your intended target audiences can be difficult. Warehouses are usually based in the US or Asia. As a result, the shipping times for those operating outside these areas are often longer, putting them on the back foot.

In light of that, we’re pleased to introduce Gelato: The print-on-demand company with over 130 production locations worldwide, including spots across Europe, North and South America, Asia, and Australia.

Gelato offers print-on-demand products within the following product categories:

  • Apparel
  • Wall art
  • Phone cases
  • Mugs
  • Totebags
  • Wallpaper
  • Photo books
  • Calendars
  • Cards

Its selection of products isn’t the most extensive. Still, it’s plenty for enthusiastic designers and illustrators looking to customize and sell several high-quality products.

Gelato is free to use and allows you to set your own prices. It’s also easy to integrate the platform with your favorite eCommerce solutions.

Pricing 💰

As we just mentioned, Gelato is entirely free to use. Its free plan gives you access to Gelato’s complete product catalog. You can also connect two eCommerce stores and register two account users. While this will be sufficient for brand-new businesses, it may later be worth investing in one of Gelato’s paid plans.

Gelato+ costs only $14.99 per month and increases the number of stores you can connect with to ten. In addition, you’ll benefit from extra design tools like premium mockups, the product personalization tool, image filters, premium fonts, and more. Most importantly, you get 30% off shipping.

The Gelato+ Gold plan for $99 per month makes shipping even cheaper with 50% off (after you hit 50 orders per month) and allows you to set shipping profit margins.

Gelato Print Quality

Gelato goes above and beyond to ensure exceptional results with all of its products. The company uses state-of-the-art printing technology, as well as quality assurance methods to ensure you get excellent prints every time.

Gelato also has fantastic guides and resources to help ensure beginners in the print on demand market upload the right files for excellent production.

New Features

In 2023, Gelato introduced a new discount option, giving customers 5% off when they buy two or more of the same item, or 10% off when they purchase 3 of the same products.

Designers also got a new drag-and-drop design tool, and updated mock-up studio for wall art. Plus, the company introduced branded label and insert options for creators.

Pros 👍

  • Local production in 32 countries ensures faster, more sustainable product delivery.
  • Gelato doesn’t impose a minimum order threshold.
  • Pricing is relatively affordable, though shipping prices can quickly add up.
  • A mobile app enables you to manage orders on the go, track shipments, and access basic analytics.
  • Extensive wall art selection

Cons 👎

  • Limited product selection (over 150 categories in total, but categories are limited to apparel and basic stationary)
  • You can’t access special printing technologies like embroidery or engraving

Best for ✅

Gelato is ideal for sellers looking to get started with the main print on demand categories like wallart, apparel, mugs, especially if you’re targeting global audiences.

Gelato with its widespread production locations keeps your carbon footprint low and ensures faster shipping times – win-win!

4. Redbubble – Best Print on Demand Site for Artists

redbubble print on demand service

Redbubble is another very well-known print on demand site that comes from Australia. This business is all about giving independent creators and artists a way to sell their creations on the web.

The marketplace is packed full of various print on demand products that help you to make your voice heard.

The Redbubble platform is a great option for designers and creators from all backgrounds, because you’ll be able to find an audience that’s suitable for you, no matter where you come from. There are more than 60 products to choose from, including:

  • Notebooks
  • Scarves
  • T-shirts
  • Smartphone cases
  • Duvet covers
  • Stickers

Redbubble already has a huge following with lots of customers for you to tap into, so you can avoid some of the hard work involved with expanding your own online brand.

Additionally, creativity and originality are definitely encouraged here. You can even use Redbubble in a selection of languages, so you don’t have to worry about missing out regardless of where your audience might be.

The Redbubble platform is incredibly easy to use, and products can be shipped worldwide in most cases. While Redbubble doesn’t integrate with other website platforms, using the company’s platform isn’t too bad itself.

Just remember that you won’t be able to use this service on your own website. On the plus side, you can get your payments through PayPal and direct bank deposit very easily.

Pricing 💰

Like with many print on demand companies, you pay for the base price of the item, and the shipping and fulfillment costs to get your item to your customer. You get to choose the markup cost for your product, so you can also control a lot of your own profits too. What’s more, getting your earnings is quick and easy too.

The base price you pay on Redbubble covers the cost of the service fee for creating and listing your products, and the price of actually making the items you want to sell. Base prices can vary because they depend on things like where you’re going to be sending your items to.

You’ll need to consider various other factors that could affect how much you spend too, such as artist production costs, and how many customizations you want on your clothing. Prices on Redbubble can also change pretty frequently, so it’s hard to build a predictable business model.

Redbubble Print Quality

Opinions about Redbubble’s print quality vary drastically around the world. The company is relatively good at delivering high-quality items in general, but print colors can vary depending on the files you upload to the platform.

Some artists have argued that the prints on apparel don’t completely match the files they’ve created for the platform.

New Features

Redbubble has focused heavily on artist wellbeing in the last few years, creating new programs like its “Artist Ambassadors” initiative, to draw attention to new creators. The company also expanded its partnership with Rokit, to enhance user experience and drive revenue with AI.

Pros 👍

  • Tons of customization options to sell whatever you like
  • Sell virtually any creative item you can think of
  • Existing marketplace makes it easy to find customers
  • Easy to use back-end for sellers
  • Good quality products most of the time

Cons 👎

  • There are some bad apples when it comes to print quality
  • Base prices can change very quickly
  • Difficult to build a memorable brand

Best for ✅

If you want to sell your print on demand products online, but you don’t want to go through the hassle of setting up your own website and doing your own marketing, then Redbubble is an excellent choice.

You can create your items for sale with ease, and you don’t have to worry about any marketing, because you’re already using the Redbubble existing audience.

5. Sellfy – Best POD Service With Online Store Builder Included

sellfy - best print on demand companies

Sellfy is a popular ecommerce platform, especially among entrepreneurs in Europe and Asia. Sellfy initially entered the market focusing on digital products but has since expanded into print-on-demand. For this reason, their approach differs somewhat from traditional POD solutions.

They’re more about building an entire business, not just a product.

Most notably, besides offering print-on-demand services, they also provide all the tools you need to set up a beautiful storefront. From which you can sell physical products, digital downloads, and subscriptions.

Sellfy also offers a range of marketing and analytics services. For example, you can send product updates to customers via email, create discount codes, and upsell items on your checkout page. You can also see which products have sold the most and where your customers are coming from.

Sellfy takes care of all the product shipping and manufacturing of your POD items. You can also customize labels, text, graphics, and the color of your merchandise. This doesn’t cost extra as it’s part of Sellfy’s product creation process. However, the different customization options available depend on the product type.

There are also embroidery options, for which a one-time file conversion fee of $6.50 applies. Sellfy manually assesses the file during this conversion to re-design it as an embroidery pattern with the correct thread type, stitch type, and design.

Then once, you’re happy with the final design of your product, you can instantly list it on your online store. At this point, it’s worth mentioning, once you have a Sellfy account, you’re not limited to selling via your Sellfy store. You can embed product links anywhere, including websites you’ve created on other platforms like Squarespace, Wix, WordPress, and more.

Product options include:

  • Sweatshirts
  • Hoodies
  • Shirts
  • Tank tops
  • Bags
  • Phone cases
  • Mugs
  • Stickers
  • Posters

In addition to these products, Sellfy has recently released a range of eco-friendly and sustainable products, including cotton tote bags and eco-friendly phone cases.

Pricing 💰

While you start with a base cost for manufacturing the product, Sellfy doesn’t take a commission or charge shipping costs. Instead, when customers place their order, they pay for the item, including the tax and shipping cost. You then add your profit margin on top of the base price.

Adding products to your store doesn’t cost anything, but you pay a monthly fee to maintain your online storefront. If you opt into annual billing, you’ll save nearly a third of that cost.

There’s a 14-day free trial and after that, prices range from $22 a month to $199 per month.

The premium plans unlock email marketing, a custom domain name, and you can sell unlimited POD products. However, the more expensive the pricing tier, the more product upselling and marketing options you get access to.

More costly plans also lift the sales threshold. The starter plan entitles you to sell up to $10k in sales per year, and the most expensive premium plan allows for up to $200k.

Sellfy Print Quality

Like most POD companies, Sellfy adheres to strong quality standards and practices. However, all products are printed with the Direct to Garment technique, which means you may not get the best results with certain prints, depending on the files you choose.

We recommend ordering sample products in advance before you start selling items in bulk on your ecommerce store.

New Features

Sellfy has introduced a host of updates in the last couple of years for business leaders, offering new store customization tools, with innovative themes, as well as a cart abandonment tool to minimize lost sales. The company has also added new guides and resources to the Sellfy university.

Pros 👍

  • You can accept multiple payment options, including Stripe, PayPal, credit or debit cards, and digital wallets.
  • You get access to built-in marketing tools, including email marketing, popups, and discounts.
  • You can launch a customized online storefront.
  • Over 40 color variations and white label customization options are available when it comes to product creation.
  • Sellfy doesn’t charge a commission or transaction fee.
  • Suppose you don’t like your Sellfy storefront. In that case, you can embed your products on any other website, including adding product cards on Youtube videos.

Cons 👎

  • Limited integrations are available
  • Some users complain of glitches when adding product images
  • If your sales exceed the plan threshold, you’ll have to upgrade to a more expensive plan

Best for ✅

If you’re looking for an all-in-one tool to launch your POD site, Sellfy is a good choice. Here you can create your POD products and storefront from the convenience of one platform and benefit from all the marketing and customization tools it comes with.

6. Spreadshirt – Best Print on Print on Demand Service for Selling T-Shirts

spreadshirt homepage

Spreadshirt is another top market leader in print on demand products. This business, which is based in Germany, offers a wide range of items to choose from. The platform is available in 12 different languages, and there are more than 200 unique products that you can customize with the marketplace. The products are easy to design and customize too.

One of the things that makes Spreadshirt stand out as a market-leading provider of print on demand companies is that you can rest assured that the company is only going to produce the most eco-friendly and responsible items. There’s an emphasis on transparent manufacturing methods and good working conditions. Product options include:

  • T—shirts
  • Gifts
  • Photo gifts
  • Sweaters and hoodies
  • Tank tops
  • Baby clothing

How long it takes to deliver your items to your customers will depend on a number of things, including where your products are being shipped to. You can also choose multiple options for selling on Spreadshirt. If you want to use your own store, then you’ll be responsible for building the store, and making sure that the branding stands out. On the other hand, if you choose to sell on the Spreadshirt marketplace, you get access to a huge pre-existing audience.

Pricing 💰

Whether you’re selling in your own shop or not, the Spreadshirt experience is free to use. But you pay for the cost of the item and it’s shipping and fulfillment requirements. Because you get to decide exactly how much you’re going to sell your item for, you’re also in charge of products.

The price you pay for custom products on Spreadshirt will depend on various factors. A mid-sized women’s shirt in grey, for instance, is priced at around $10.99, but you can end up spending a lot more if you add extra design elements to the mix.

Though there aren’t any monthly fees to worry about, you’ll also need to consider the costs of sending high quality products to people in different countries. Because Spreadshirt has an existing marketplace, however, you won’t get the full profits from your sales. Instead, you open a shop and get between 20-40% commission instead.

Spreadshirt Print Quality

Although Spreadshirt follows careful quality assurance methods to ensure high-quality prints, some consumers have argued that the items sold by the company aren’t particularly durable.

Over time, prints on apparel garments can begin to fade with regular washing. Again, it’s a good idea to ensure you order samples and test the quality yourself before you begin selling.

New Features

The most significant update to happen with Spreadshirt in the last couple of years, is the creation of the “Spread Group”, a unified selection of products, including Spreadshirt, designed for ecommerce vendors and designers.

Notably, the company also regularly updates its product collections with new embroidered products, plushies, and more.

Pros 👍

  • Easy to sell through the marketplace, independent stores and platform
  • Great range of customization options to make your brand stand out
  • Payments are available via PayPal
  • Good 20-40% commission available
  • Existing marketplace reduces marketing demand

Cons 👎

  • Shop owners are responsible for advertising themselves
  • Some custom designs can end up being quite expensive

Best for ✅

Spreadshirt stands out as an easy way to get started online. If you haven’t built much of an audience for your own brand yet, then you can still make a decent profit by building on the audience that the Spreadshirt company already has. The available marketplace makes it easy to get a launchpad for your company.

7. Gooten – Best for Small Business

gooten

Gooten is another sensational market leader when it comes to print on demand companies. If you’re looking for a business that can give you every essential service that you need to sell your designs online, then this is the platform for you.

Once you sign up with Gooten, you can either sell your own designs, or sell someone else’s if they’ve given their permission for you to do so. Additionally, Gooten handles all of the fulfilment services for you too, including printing your products and shipping them to your customers. There’s even an automated delivery system for order tracking too.

One of the things that really makes Gooten stand out is the fact that it integrates with many major ecommerce platforms like eBay, Shopify and Amazon. Products to sell include:

  • Tote bags
  • Journals and notebooks
  • Home accessories
  • Holiday décor
  • Canvasses and prints
  • Kids apparel

Pricing 💰

Like many of the best print on demand companies, there’s no sign-up fee required for Gooten. All you need to do is file your details with the company, and you can start choosing what you want to sell. You can also add Gooten to a range of other ecommerce products, so it’s easier to keep track of your entire business in one place.

Gooten does make it a little easier to figure out how much you’re going to spend on things like creation and shipping with a full product catalogue.

You can go to the catalog and see things like the price for acrylic blocks, which start at $17.10, and the price of accent mugs starting at $2.99. Gooten is a little pricey compared to some options, but it offers a lot of alternatives for your designs.

Gooten Print Quality

Gooten has extensive quality assurance systems in place to ensure every product is as attractive and durable as possible.

However, unlike some alternative print on demand companies, Gooten does work with a variety of manufacturers, which means some products can have a slightly different quality than others. It’s best to regularly check the quality when selling items long-term.

New Features

Gooten announced the arrival of a new collection of print on demand products in 2024, including branded products from Champion, Lane Seven, C2 Sport, and more. Plus, the company partnered with a new printing leader to offer vendors the “direct to film” method for printing.

Pros 👍

  • Wide variety of product types to choose from
  • Very simple and straightforward user interface
  • Integrations with various leading eCommerce platforms
  • Automated solutions for order tracking
  • Various alternative designs to choose from
  • Easy to predict pricing

Cons 👎

  • Pricing is a little high for some items
  • Not much support for marketing

Best for ✅

If you want to integrate your existing solution with one of the market-leading eCommerce companies on the market, then Gooten is an excellent choice. It’s got a wide range of products to choose from, and it’s very easy to use for beginners.

8. Teespring – Best for Seling on Shopify

teespring

TeeSpring originally started life as a simple print on demand company selling t-shirts that were available to customize. However, the company has evolved a lot over the years, expanding out to multiple trending products, including mugs and socks. One of the great things about this company is that it’s really easy to get started if you’re new to selling print on demand.

The TeeSpring company allows you to design and print products using an excellent design component that makes it easier to mock-up your designs. Some of the items you can create include:

  • Tote bags
  • Accessories
  • Mugs
  • Home Décor
  • Socks

Just like many of the other print on demand companies that we’ve covered so far, Teespring handles everything on your behalf, from shipping, to managing your products.

One thing to remember with this company is that you have to choose a campaign length for your products. If you choose the standard, then you should be able to print your items once every 3 days.

Another advantage of TeeSpring is that it has a Boosted network. This an integration between TeeSpring and some of the leading ecommerce marketplaces on the web today. You add your products to this network to receive a higher chance of sales.

Pricing 💰

TeeSpring is free to use, and you can decide the selling price for your products. You pay for the base cost of the item, and when the product is sold, you get to keep the difference between what the product costs, and what you sell it for.

To make the most of your profit-making strategies, Teespring does offer some guidance on how to set base prices and what sort of percentages you should be using. The price of each item from Teespring varies depending on what you choose, but there is a full catalog to guide you.

TeeSpring Print Quality

TeeSpring sells relatively affordable products for low prices, meaning some of its garments are a little less durable than the options you’ll find elsewhere.

The good news is that the company does offer resources and guides to help improve your print quality. However, you may find that these items don’t live up to the expectations of consumers in search of “luxury” garments.

New Features

Since becoming “Spring”, TeeSpring has made a number of updates to its platform. The company expanded its product collection, offered new express delivery options to retailers, and introduced a unique creator ranking tool at the end of 2023.

Plus, they’ve introduced new integrations with Vertical Immersive Shopping on Instagram, and a partnership with Kajabi for online course selling.

Pros 👍

  • Extensive mockup generator shows you your designs
  • Support from a boosted network to help you sell
  • Lots of great products to choose from
  • Handy and straightforward ordering process
  • Intuitive and simple interface for all businesses
  • Lots of opportunities for selling various products

Cons 👎

  • Limitations on product customization
  • Requires a minimum sale for each product and a time limit
  • Lots of competition.

Best for ✅

If you’re looking for a company that offers a wide range of products, but you also need help making sure that you can get your items seen online, then TeeSpring is likely to be the top choice for you. Features like the Boosted Network make it a lot easier to make your brand stand out.

The average turnaround time for most of the products available from this company is usually about 3 to 5 days, which is good for a Print on Demand company. However, you could also look into rushing some of your items if you’re in a hurry. This does cost about $2 extra per item though.

Pricing 💰

With many of the print on demand companies available today, it can be difficult to figure out exactly what you’re going to pay.

Fortunately, with Print Aura, there’s a pricing wizard included that allows you to see how much an item is actually going to cost you in a matter of minutes. All you need to do is implement your product type and enter where you’re shipping your item to.

Although you’ll need to look into your own pricing based on what you’re planning to sell, Print Aura options include things like $8.50 shipping rates for sweat shirts, $5.50 for T-shirts, or up to $11.50 for pillows, which does make this option a little pricey for some.

Print Aura Print Quality

Print Aura promises excellent products in all of its categories, and offers very informative resources to help ensure designers always upload the right files to the website.

That being said, it’s worth remembering that the company’s product quality can vary from time to time. We recommend ordering samples of any new products you want to sell on your store.

New Features

Print Aura hasn’t made many changes to its platform or product catalog in the last few years. The company still offers the same fast turnaround times and affordable printing options. However it has updated its options for branding, with custom packing slips and neck labels.

Pros 👍

  • Plenty of customization options to make your brand stand out
  • Various ways to label and enhance your products
  • Zero setup and monthly subscription fees
  • Provides manual order options
  • Mockup generator is great for creating designs
  • Track customer items easily
  • No minimum requirements for orders

Cons 👎

  • No video production or photography services
  • Shipping costs can be quite expensive
  • Customer service response times are slow

Best for ✅

If you’re looking for a lot of freedom when it comes to choice of products, then Print Aura is likely to be your top choice.

At the same time, this fantastic company is also excellent because it helps to make understanding how much you have to pay a little easier. If you’re a beginner who can get confused by POD costs, this is the option for you.

11. Zazzle – Best POD Marketplace

zazzle app

Zazzle started life in California and has been earning a reputation for excellent selling experiences around the world ever since. This fantastic online marketplace comes with a ton of customizable products to choose from, so you can bring your designs to live however you choose.

One of the best things about Zazzle is how unique and advanced the customization options are. You have the option to choose from a range of over 1300 items, and then you can further customize them to make a final product as unique as possible.

In the marketplace, you can find a host of designers selling art, as well as makers that can create and customize products for you. If you need some extra help, you can also use the Zazzle templates to create:

  • Invitations
  • Clothing
  • Home décor
  • Accessories
  • Electronic devices

There are a huge range of products to choose from in the Zazzle marketplace, and Zazzle also gives you the opportunity to customize your products a lot more by giving your shoppers the chance to change fonts on an item, make text smaller, or even update color choices.

When you create an account on Zazzle, you also need to build your own online store, however.

Pricing 💰

You can set your own profit margin from 5% to 99%, depending on what you need. If a buyer needs to add further customization to one of your designs, and they end up paying more for it, then you can earn more too.

Becoming an associate will allow you to earn 15% per sale plus some extra volume bonuses too. Once again, you’ll be paying for the items and the fulfilment costs of getting your items out to your customers.

Zazzle, like many of the other print on demand companies available today, from Customcat to Printify, gives you a lot of control over how much you can earn.

Once you know the base price for your products, it’s up to you to choose the profit margin that makes the most sense. Just remember that you still need to attract customers with whatever price you choose.

If you set a royalty rate above a 15% rate, then you will need to pay a 5% transaction fee for every purchase that your customer makes with this POD service.

Zazzle Print Quality

Zazzle has a relatively good reputation for printing high-quality items. Many consumers are impressed by the durability and luxury appeal of the items offered, particularly when it comes to paper-based and stationery items.

Notably however, the results you get can vary depending on the material and printing technique you choose, as well as the quality of your design files.

New Features

In the last couple of years, Zazzle has introduced a new range of tools to help companies increase their sales, such as “collection types”, which allow users to curate extraordinary collections of unique products for customers.

They’ve also updated their store backend management tools, introduced QR codes, and added new fonts to their library.

Pros 👍

  • One of the better known POD sites
  • Make a passive income without a lot of effort
  • Make tons of different print on demand products (over 1300)
  • Lots of templates to help you get started
  • Work with designers selling custom art

Cons 👎

  • You’ll still need to make your own store and advertise your brand
  • It can be difficult to start making money initially
  • Transaction fees do apply with some purchases

Best for ✅

If you’re looking for the widest range of customization options to give your customers some excellent choice, then Zazzle is the best option for you.

Not only can you customize your own items as much as you like, but you can allow your clients to add their own components into the mix too. This is a great way to create happier and more loyal customers.

Pricing 💰

SunFrog is completely free to use, and you get paid by creating items and earning a 15% sales commission. You get a 10% commission if you’re an artist for each item sold too.

This means that it’s easy to create a massive profit. You can also choose to get paid in a range of different ways, including wire transfer, direct bank deposit, PayPal, and more.

Like the other print on demand stores we’ve covered above, Sunfrog will allow you to sell t-shirts and other items online as part of a comprehensive product catalog, without any monthly subscription fees. However, you should keep in mind that the price of the items you sell will depend on a lot of factors.

While you won’t have to worry about subscription fees for your t-shirt business or Shopify store, you will need to consider the price that each artist charges for their designs carefully. The good news is that you only pay for the cost of a print when a customer buys it.

SunFrog Print Quality

According to user reviews, SunFrog has a good reputation for exceptional printing quality, although the designs can occasionally crack and fade over time, depending on the printing method you choose. Certain products are also less durable than others, such as standard t-shirts.

You’ll find services that really help you to make your business stand out, and there’s virtually no limitations to what you can create.

displate homepage

Displate is a unique online marketplace, focused on selling high-quality metal posters, created by a huge range of modern artists. Although the company has a niche focus, it has attracted the attention of thousands of customers worldwide, looking for a new way to decorate their homes.

The good news is its relatively simply to get started. All you need to do as a creator is share a link to your online portfolio with the review team, and they’ll decide whether you should be able to open a “Displate shop”.

Once you do, you’ll be able to sell your art through the platform, and earn a 50% commission on everything you sell.

Once you create your Displate store, you’ll be able to earn 50% commissions on all of your pieces when they sell.

You only pay the cost for actually creating and shipping the products when you order your products for yourself, for gifts, exhibitions, or in-person selling. In this case, you also get 50% off the cost of the product, compared to what consumers pay.

Notably however, you won’t be able to set your own profit margins on Displate, each product is sold at the same price, meaning you earn $4.50 for a medium print, $9 for a large print, and $14.50 for every extra large print sold.

How to Choose The Best Print on Demand Company?

Print on demand companies are the dedicated experts online that can bring your fashion selling vision to life. With these providers, you can access a range of print on demand products, from hoodies and t-shirts, to phone cases for your online store.

Either through a stand-alone solution or a plugin for a service like Shopify, you can then connect with your print-on-demand provider, giving them your designs to put onto different products.

When a customer purchases an item from your store, your print on demand company takes over the fulfilment part of your ecommerce journey, printing the item and sending it to a client.

In simple terms, print on demand business providers are essential suppliers of white-label products that you can easily sell through dropshipping.

When choosing the best print on demand company, you can even go beyond clothes to things like stickers, tote bags and more.

Print on Demand Marketplace vs POD Company

Before we start looking at some of the best print on demand companies and sites, it’s worth noting there are different ways to start selling your custom products online.

Most POD solutions fall into one of two categories: marketplaces, or POD companies.

Print-on-demand marketplaces, like Redbubble, Zazzle, and Society6, don’t integrate with your online store, or an existing marketplace like Amazon.

Instead, they give you a pre-built environment where you can create a storefront and sell to an existing audience. This eliminates the need to set up your own website and manage sales yourself.

However, while selling through a marketplace is simpler, you’ll often have less control over branding and pricing structures. Plus, you may find it difficult to stand out if the marketplace you choose is already quite competitive.

POD services or companies like Printful and Printify integrate with the ecommerce stores you already have on platforms like Shopify, Wix, or Squarespace. While they lack the networking and community benefits of marketplaces, they give you more control over building a memorable brand.

You get complete control over how you sell your products, market your business, and develop your brand. Plus, there’s less direct competition to fight against for attention.

Global Shipping and Fulfillment Insights

One of the most significant things you’ll need to consider when choosing a print on demand company is their approach to fulfillment. POD vendors handle order fulfillment on your behalf, producing products, packaging them, and shipping them to your customers.

However, not every business will deliver the same fulfillment service. Many of the leading companies in the POD landscape can ship products worldwide, but they may only have fulfillment and printing partners in a specific location, like China, where production costs are lower.

This means that it often takes a lot longer for your products to reach your customers. If you want to gain an edge over the competition, it’s worth choosing a fulfillment partner who has local centers in the countries closest to your target audience.

For instance, Gelato has local printers in more than 30 countries, to help reduce carbon emissions, and speed up fulfillment times.

Printing Companies: Your Print Mockup Company

Print mockup companies are essential to the POD journey, as they help you to determine what kind of items you can sell on your ecommerce store.

With a mockup business, you’ll be able to use templates and other crucial tools to ensure that your products are going to look their best. After all, if you want to keep your profit margins high, you can’t afford to sell sub-par products.

Placeit stands out as perhaps the most popular mockup business there is. Designed to help people using print-on-demand services to create everything from sweaters to leggings, this business makes it easy to see what your designs will look like in action.

Placeit can even help you to build your brand online with logo designs and templates that help set your store apart from the rest of the competitors online. The Placeit team delivers the perfect blend of technology and design to provide business leaders with the support they need to start selling amazing products everywhere.

The price for Placeit starts with a free trial, where you can test exactly what the company has on offer. After that, you can choose between an unlimited subscription, for $19.95 per month, or $99.95 per year. There’s no minimum for how long you need to maintain your subscription with the brand.

Additionally, with Placeit, you can also choose a single purchase option, rather than a subscription. Here, you just pay for what you need.

For instance, if you just want to start off with a single T-shirt design, you can pay for that item without committing to anything long-term.

Since setting up your brand is often crucial for success in the retail world, using a mockup tool like Placeit can help you to build the reputation you really need for your company.

Print on Demand Predictions for 2024

In the last few years, the print on demand market has exploded in popularity, as more members of the creator economy look for monetization options. The rise of the POD industry has brought with it the introduction of new and innovative solutions and tools intended to support sellers.

For instance, in 2023 and 2024, we’re seeing an increase in the number of companies leveraging AI tools for things like image optimization and creation.

Printful has an AI image optimizer tool which can automatically enhance the quality of your uploaded files.

Printify has a generative AI system that can create unique images based on text prompts.

At the same time, POD companies are becoming more flexible, integrating with a wider range of sales channels, including existing marketplaces and social media platforms.

Many even offer access to their own API, so companies can create custom automated workflows.

Plus, we’re seeing an increase in the number of companies striving to empower sellers with more innovative marketing tools, mockup generators, and automation options for everything from pricing to shipping selection.

As we move forward into 2024 and beyond, the print on demand world will only become more innovative and intuitive.

Which Print on Demand Company Should You Choose?

Print on demand companies clearly come in a wide range of sizes and options to suit different businesses. The right one for you will depend on a lot of different things. For instance, do you want to just sell your own custom beanies and iPhone cases in an existing marketplace? If so, then you could consider an option like Redbubble.

On the other hand, if you want to see how it works to build a real thriving business online with your own custom storefront, you need something a bit more flexible.

Printful is the go-to option for anyone who wants to develop a full store online, complete with integrations with leading eCommerce websites like Shopify and WooCommerce.

The good news about print on demand sites, is that whether you’re selling swimwear or tapestries, it’s very easy to get started. With mockup companies available to help you see what your products are going to look like in action, you can create a design that speaks to your audience and start testing the waters to see whether your clients will actually want to buy from you.

Most print on demand companies also make it a lot easier to sell your items online. You’ll still be responsible for designing your items and marketing them through influencers and social media. However, unlike other seller platforms like Etsy, you don’t have to actually create and ship your products to your customers.

If you’re ready to start getting your merch into the market, there are tons of excellent POD companies out there with upfront pricing structures to help you get started.

Some print on demand solutions are excellent for beginners in the world of online sales because they automatically integrate with tools like WordPress and Shopify. Other sites act as dedicated marketplaces where you can highlight your brand to potential customers and instantly access a wide selection of buyers.

When you’re determining which print on demand solution to use, from Printful to Printify, and beyond, make sure that you take all of the important factors into account, from how much you might spend on subscription and transaction fees, to what it’s going to take to build a brand and market your products to consumers.

Although there’s no one-size-fits-all option for most businesses, you can make your decision by narrowing down your choices based on what you want to accomplish with your business.

Are you looking for excellent customer support for instance, amazing mockups so you can see your canvas prints before you put them on the web?

Or just a unique way to create your own brand online?

There’s something for everyone in today’s marketplace for print on demand companies. Which business will you be working with going forward? Let us know in the comments below.

hi Guys , i started a store on redbublle 2 years ago and failed miserably only sold 2 tshirts , what other stores similar to redbublle that i can post the designs on for free and they handle everything , i was promoting my shirts on instgram

Hello Karam, you might consider setting up and online store on Shopify or Squarespace and sell you POD products there. Another great option would be to se up an account on Etsy, and start selling your tshirts there.

      1. Jey says:

Shopify and Etsy have a subscription fee plus commission. Someone asked about a free alternative and a marketplace similar to Redbubble, where the designer could focus solely on creating designs and promoting them

so far the best remains redbubble
it has its own community, and therefore many more people go around the shops on the site.
I have 8 print on demand platforms and so far the only one that has brought me anything has been redbubble.
Not to mention the practicality, you put a drawing and all the products are automatically drawn, while other sites do not allow this, but you have to draw the products one at a time.
    A nice break indeed.

      Thanks for sharing Ajaxx!

Hello, when you mean to pay for the costs of printing, shipping, etc. Do you mean that first they will charge me from my configured account? If it is yes, then if I do not have money in my account, the purchase made by the customer will be canceled?

Thanks in advance for your great information work.

Hey LEonardo, no, every transaction is automated.

Hi! I have a question. I would like to start a POD dropship shop that focusses on apparel (baby/children). The designs I will make will be text in the Dutch language. So for me it’s best to check for a company in Holland that can fulfill my orders so that shipping time/costs are as low as possible. Do you know any good POD companies that are based in The Netherlands?

    1. Bogdan Rancea says:

Hello Jane, I don’t know any POD companies based in The Netherlands, but Printful have 2 facilities in the EU (one in Latvia and one in Spain) so shipping to the Netherlands should not take too long. Check out or Printful review for more info.

If you do find a POD company there, do make sure that the also have the fulfillment center in The Netherlands and not just the offices.

    1. Bogdan Rancea says:

Hello Ingrid, I would definitely go with Printful.
