The discount retailer is closing down one of its three stores in Cannock, Staffordshire, on Saturday (18 July) to turn it into an online fulfillment centre.

The retailer is also stepping up its rollout of frozen and chilled food into stores. The discounter began testing selling frozen food in seven stores in October 2019 and now hopes to add the range to more.

By the end of July, fridges and freezers for the food will be installed at 12 more branches, bringing the total number of stores to sell the range to 30.

Poundland is also making wi-fi available in every store.

Barry Williams, managing director at the retailer, said: “We’re stepping up to support high streets after the impact of the coronavirus by being customer-focused, people-led and tech-enabled.

“This is the biggest transformation in our history as we look to secure our future for another 30 years.”
