The trial, which launches this week from stores in Leeds (Pudsey) and Birmingham (Barnes Hill), gives customers a choice of more than 300 Asda own-brand products and branded everyday items, including ready meals, fresh fruit and vegetables, and beer, wine and spirits.

There is no minimum basket size needed to qualify for delivery in as little as 30 minutes.

If the trial is successful, the partnership may be extended to more Asda stores later this year.

Simon Gregg, vice-president of online grocery at Asda, said: “We’re pleased to be partnering with Uber Eats to trial a rapid grocery delivery service for customers in Leeds and Birmingham. This will give Asda customers more choice in how they shop with us and offer yet another way to quickly and conveniently get their favourite branded and own-brand products delivered to the doorstep.”

Toussaint Wattinne, Uber Eats general manager, added: “Uber Eats is looking forward to making sure customers can quickly and conveniently order groceries and treats, and I know this partnership will offer even more choices for customers using the Uber Eats app.”

The Uber Eats food delivery app is available in more than 120 towns and cities across the UK, including: Aberdeen, Bath, Belfast, Birmingham, Brighton, Bristol, Cambridge, Cardiff, Dublin, Edinburgh, Exeter, Glasgow, Ipswich, Leeds, Leicester, Liverpool, London, Manchester, Newcastle, Oxford, Portsmouth, Reading, Southampton, Swindon, Windsor and York.
