Iconic Scottish beer Kestrel has unveiled a new campaign featuring the transformation of a dilapidated 1930s classic British car into a UK land speed record-breaker.

The Flying Kestrel is the culmination of months of restoration and engineering work since the abandoned Riley Kestrel 9, with its trademark fastback styling, was discovered rotting in a barn in Holland.

The story of its transformation is to feature on a new Amazon Prime TV show scheduled to launch in September.

The car will take pride of place in Kestrel’s extensive new marketing programme becoming a roving brand ambassador with its own range of clothing and merchandising, a dedicated website and social media channels, brand advertising and PR campaigns and a busy schedule of guest appearances at live shows and events across the UK and internationally.

Nigel McNally, founder and chief executive of Brookfield Drinks who discovered the car, said: “We completely re-engineered and relaunched the Kestrel brand in 2006 when people said we couldn’t do it. We consider Kestrel to be ‘a real brave heart of beers’ and as a business that is an essential part of our spirit and DNA. We not only committed to restoring this old classic, but to giving it a powerful and compelling new lease of life. We like to do things other beers won’t. It excites us as a team and we aim to use The Flying Kestrel as a core focus of our marketing next year. In all its glory, it will engage people wherever it goes.”
