Criteria for becoming a member: We welcome disciplined retailers who want to work in partnership with us to build a structured and efficient business. Minimum store size is more than 1,000sq ft.

Costs of becoming a member: No cost.

What financial packages/credit terms do you offer?

There is a range of leasing and financial packages to assist in capital expenditure and commercial mortgages for Family Shopper members. Credit terms are agreed as part of the sign-up process.

Minimum length of contract: Three years.

Do you offer a trading area agreement? If so, within what radius is a member assured exclusivity? Each store is assessed on an individual basis, taking into account catchment area and local competition.

Minimum drop requirement (if applicable): Minimum drop of £1,000, excluding tobacco.

What options do retailers have for ordering goods? Retailers have the ease and convenience of internet ordering, or they can order through their EPoS.

How many own-label lines do you have listed and what are the own-label ranges? Six hundred own-label lines are stocked in each store. These cover every core category, including grocery, soft drinks, confectionery, chilled, frozen, household and off-licence.

What arrangements do you have for fresh produce and chilled and frozen foods?

Depending on turnover, we offer up to three or four days a week delivery for our chilled and frozen products, which are delivered along with our ambient goods.

How many of your retailers have EPoS and how do you encourage them to take on new technology packages? The Family Shopper EPoS is available for all stores joining the group. This system is updated on a regular basis to keep up with the latest technology.

Do you invest in consumer advertising? We provide each store with 2,000 leaflets every promotion, free of charge.

What promotions do you offer? We operate 13 four-weekly promotions designed to drive footfall throughout the store. The leaflets from time to time will also follow themed events, such as major sporting events, back to school, Easter and Christmas.  Family Shopper also operates long-term deals in key areas of the store to deliver the consumer “a bargain every day’”.

What category management help can you provide? Full planograms are offered for Family Shopper, which are updated weekly. We also send weekly bulletins to keep retailers informed of any changes that occur.

What other support measures for retailers have you introduced recently and what do you plan to introduce in the near future? We offer a weekly retail development meeting to review store standards and discuss areas of opportunity to further develop sales and profits.

Why should an independent retailer join your group? The discount sector is continuing to grow within the grocery market. Family Shopper is a unique trading format that operates in the symbol arena to capitalise on the growth in the discount market.

Main advantages of membership: Booker is really convenient as it is not too far from my store.  They offer both delivery and cash amd carry, so I can call into the branch to pick up items too.  I have three deliveries a week, I receive free POS kits, leaflets, and support from my local retail development manager to discuss all aspects of the store. The support from Booker has been great and there is the added incentive of the Spend & Save discount scheme.

Why did you choose to join this group rather than its competition? I liked the fascia as it stands out amongst the rest. I visited a few stores in the area and thought there and then this one was for me. The feedback from the retailers I visited was very positive about the fascia and Booker. I also felt Family Shopper wanted my business and that it was a long-term partnership, working together to achieve the same goals. My customers cannot believe the transformation of the store; they love it and I would certainly recommend Family Shopper.
