PDI Buys GasBuddy, Plans Expanded Promotion Capabilities for the Mobile App

PDI, a global provider of enterprise management software for the convenience and fuel industries, has purchased the GasBuddy mobile app, which drivers use to find and share real-time fuel prices. The app has 5 million active mobile users, representing billions of fuel gallons and hundreds of millions of dollars of convenience retail spend.

The solution provider plans to expand the app’s current offerings to help c-stores attract new customers by receiving offers funded by CPG companies and streamlining enrollment in retailers’ loyalty programs. Additionally, PDI will enable retailers to extend personalized fuel pricing offers in real time to consumers who are on-site or driving nearby, as well as promote in-store products.

“By enriching the crowdsourced gas pricing information and related conversations that consumers are having, we can help retailers drive greater sales and loyalty precisely when and where consumers are ready to buy,” said Brandon Logsdon, President and GM for Marketing Cloud Solutions at PDI in a statement. “This will enhance the experience and utility of the app for its millions of users.”

PDI also plans to enhance the GasBuddy Business Pages that are used by c-store retailers for listing services and reputation management. PDI will integrate Business Pages with its existing products and services to provide retailers with more holistic visibility into consumer sentiment, while also providing insights about store visits, purchase behavior and business performance.

GasBuddy’s partnership with Audible was the subject of a 2019 Retail Innovation Conference session.

Berenson & Co. and Moelis & Co. served as exclusive financial advisers for the two companies. Financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.
