AirBar‐Q, the result of a collaboration between bed manufacturer Harrison Spinks and driver safety solution company NuVech, is also being trialled in a McDonald’s London site and Blue Diamond Garden Centre in Derby.

However, the drive behind this trial is to show that the system can work in smaller shops and convenience stores, not just supermarkets and larger venues.

The occupancy monitoring system, provided by partners Irisys and Ocucon, counts customers in and out of stores allowing the store manager to monitor the number of people within the building, offering maximum social distancing safety measures during the Covid‐19 pandemic.

The AirBar‐Q’s soft barrier is a flexible material ensures there is no risk of harm to customers while creating a physical barrier within the doorway. A simple traffic light system is used to communicate whether customers are able to enter or exit a zoned area. The system also offers advertising options for in-store promotions.

The system is available on a range of affordable options, including a three-month minimum subscription rental of just £51.99 per week per unit. It offers a return on investment within two weeks of installation, the company claims.

Miles Featherstone, commercial director at AirBar‐Q, said: “AirBar‐Q can increase efficiency through accurate monitoring of customer numbers, increasing revenue as staff can return to their revenue-generating roles, and avoiding unnecessary close contact with customers.”
