Ribena has rolled out a new pack design made from 100% recycled plastic.

The design features recycling messages and a reduced plastic sleeve, making the bottles “more easily detected as clear plastic to be recycled”, which the brand said has removed 202 tonnes of plastic.

The packaging is available across Ribena’s Blackcurrant, Blackcurrant Light, Strawberry, Raspberry, Very Berry, Mango & Lime, and Pineapple & Passion Fruit flavours, in 500ml bottles retailing at £1.35.

The brand said the new Ribena bottles, once recycled, will have the “optimum chance” of being recycled into another drinks bottle.

The roll-out will be supported by an advertising campaign including a TV advert, social media, and POS materials.

Charlotte Flook, head of brand for Ribena at brand owner Suntory Beverage & Food GB&I, said sixty-seven per cent of shoppers say they have become more aware of the environmental impact of plastic packaging over the last 12 months
