Circle K Pilots Beverage Subscription Program to Encourage Shoppers’ Return

Circle K is launching its Sip & Save beverage subscription, a pilot program that will offer customers who pay $5.99 per month one tea, coffee, Froster slushy or Polar Pop fountain drink of their choice every day, according to CNBC. The retailer is seeking to drive foot traffic as shoppers return to stores following the pandemic and the launch coincides with a plan to hire 20,000 new associates.

The Sip & Save program had originally been planned for 2020 but was delayed due to lockdowns, according to Kevin Lewis, Chief Marketing Officer at Circle K parent company Alimentation Couche-Tard. The subscription program will initially run for 90 days nationwide, mirroring a three-month pilot that is currently running in more than 100 stores near Augusta, Ga., and Columbia, S.C.

So far, data from the test shows that shoppers are visiting stores more frequently, a sign that Sip & Save is meeting its goals of building loyalty and bringing customers back to the store on a regular basis. While the current program slated for only three months, “If the feedback we get at the end of the 90 days nationally is the same, I think we’d be hard-pressed to say stop,” said Lewis in an interview with CNBC.

Circle K has been upping its fresh options over the past year, including the launch of new products in 1,500 locations during 2020. The convenience retailer will add more food to an additional 3,000 locations over the coming year with an emphasis on locally tailored selections.
