The study, conducted by free-from brand Kirsty’s, revealed that 25% of Brits are either lactose, gluten, dairy or wheat intolerant, with a further 10% unable to eat foods such as fish, poultry or eggs.

The research reveals that 50% of 18-24-year olds suffer from allergies and intolerances and 30% of over 50’s felt they suffer from the same allergies and intolerances.

The research also shows that Londoners are the ones that suffer from allergies or food intolerances the most with almost 40% leading free-from lifestyles. The food allergy or intolerance that the UK suffers from most is lactose, followed by dairy, gluten, and wheat.

Kirsty’s, who make a range of chilled and frozen free-from products, has already recorded a 127% year-on-year sales increase in one retailer in January.
