Walgreens Boots Alliance (WBA) CEO Tim Wentworth has made three new executive appointments that reaffirm the company’s focus on health services and retail pharmacy.

“Today’s announcement solidifies the leadership team that will carry WBA into its future as we look to expand our reach beyond neighborhood pharmacies into the fastest-growing areas of healthcare,” Wentworth said in a statement. “We have a strong team with a track record of operational excellence and an unwavering commitment to the execution of our goals.”

The top goal is reshaping WBA’s healthcare strategy to unlock business profitability, Wentworth shared, which is why WBA has appointed Mary Langowski as EVP and President of U.S. Healthcare. With a background in pharmacy retail and retail healthcare services, Langowski will further Walgreens’ aims of expanding its role in healthcare and bringing solutions to industry players, including payers, health systems, pharmacy benefit managers and biopharma manufacturers.

Most recently, Langowski served as CEO of Solera Health and before that was CVS Health’s EVP and Chief Strategy and Corporate Development Officer. In this role, Langowski oversaw its evolution as a healthcare company, leading the foundational work in its acquisition of Aetna. Current EVP and President of U.S. Healthcare John Driscoll will role work closely with Wentworth, Langowski and the U.S. Healthcare business in a senior advisory role.

Another headline appointment is Manmohan Mahajan, who is WBA’s new EVP and permanent CFO. He initially joined WBA in 2016, serving as SVP, Global Controller and Chief Accounting Officer and took over as interim global CFO in July 2023 to support WBA in its cost-cutting measures. Elizabeth Burger rounds out the new leadership team, as WBA EVP and Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO). Prior to joining WBA, Burger was most recently SVP and CHRO at Flowserve, a provider of flow control products and services for global infrastructure markets, and before that she was CHRO of Hanesbrands Inc. She has more than 25 years of experience developing strategies designed to support business growth.

Langowski, Mahajan and Burger will report directly to Wentworth and join WBA’s current executive leadership team when they officially start their roles in March 2024.
