FDA issues warning about toxic hand sanitizers
June 23, 2020
The Food and Drug Administration has issued a health advisory about hand sanitizers made in Mexico and sold in the U.S. that contain methanol, which can be toxic if absorbed through the skin or ingested. The company responsible for manufacturing the products, Eskbiochem SA de CV of Mexico, has failed to remove its products from markets despite being advised of the FDA’s concerns on June 17. Alexander Escamillo, a spokesperson for the manufacturer, said the company only learned about the warning yesterday. He claimed that someone with “access to our company” registered it with the FDA and shipped the items without its knowledge.
