Congressional report said FDA failed to warn public of baby food dangers

The Food and Drug Administration failed to report that products made by some of the country’s largest baby food manufacturers contained high levels of arsenic, cadmium, lead and mercury, according to a report by a subcommittee of the House Committee on Oversight and Reform. “Exposure to these toxic heavy metals affects babies’ brain development and nervous system, it affects their behavior, permanently decreases their IQ and, if you want to boil it down to dollars, their lifetime earnings potential,” said Tom Neltner, chemicals policy director for the Environmental Defense Fund.
