How to connect Google Shopping and Shopify

If your goal is to spice up your business by adding a very useful and effective plugin to your business strategy, you’ve come to the right place.

Anyone, anywhere, can start a business is the motto of a very popular online platform called Shopify that allows store owners to build their brand both online and offline.

What is Shopify?

Shopify is user-friendly with an easy step-by-step tutorial to set up your business. It’s guaranteed that you will figure it out even if you are a novice to the world of ecommerce. Additionally, it comes with designs and layouts for your new page that definitely have the potential to attract new customers.

If you already own a business, don’t worry! With a few simple steps provided in the Shopify set-up guide, you can incorporate Shopify into your already existing e-commerce store.

There are many valuable benefits of using Shopify, such as

  • 24/7 Customer Service
  • Security
  • Reliability
  • Customization
  • SEO & Marketing tools
  • Easy User-friendly Set-up
  • Abandoned cart reminders (send to your customers)
  • Smartphone application
  • Your own payment gateway

Yet, there’s one thing you need to keep in mind. If you want to successfully promote your products from Shopify via Google Shopping, you must fulfill Google’s specific requirements.

Requirements you must meet to promote your Shopify products via Google Shopping

To ensure your advertising runs nice and smoothly without any problems, you must meet certain requirements. Below, you can find a list discussing each requirement and its necessity.

  • Requirements for Store
  • Required Accounts
  • Shipping Methods
  • Requirements for Products

Requirements for Store

Every store has to meet the following:

  1. Make sure your Shopify online store is not protected by any password
  2. Add a valid payment provider
  3. Have a Refund Policy (with guidance) and Terms of Service of your online store
  4. Have at least 2 visible contact information (email, phone number or similar) on your website (About Us page is sufficient)
  5. Shipping to countries where Google Shopping is available

Required accounts

You need to make sure you already have these accounts to start promoting on Google Shopping.

  1. Merchant Center Account
  2. Google Ads Account

It’s necessary that you link your Google Merchant Center account to Google Ads. If you don’t link these two, you won’t be able to advertise at all.

If you don’t have an account or don’t know how to connect Merchant Center to Google Ads, don’t worry. We’ve covered both in: Create Google Merchant Center account and Link your Google Ads and Google Merchant guides.

Setting up your Shipping Methods

First and foremost, you have to adjust your Shipping Settings; the price of shipping (for different destinations), time, weight and other. You need to be very careful when setting this up since shipping is the reason behind a lot of abandoned conversions.

You can choose to import information automatically from your Shopify account or enter them manually in Google Merchant Center.

Requirements for Products

Before you can start promoting your products via Google Shopping, you must consider that Google Shopping requires additional information about your products. Although Google imports the information from your Shopify account, you should still make sure that you meet Google’s requirements.

So what do they want from you?

Usually, there is only need for one of those, however Google has specific requirements for:

  • Apparel & Accessories → age group, gender, color size
  • MediaUPC, EAN, JAN
  • Books → ISBN

Don’t forget to have every product’s selected options in English to sync up with Google!
