Cooperative food wholesaler Associated Wholesale Grocers (AWG), which serves independently owned supermarkets, has expanded its partnership with Instacart to offer ecommerce and same-day delivery solutions as well as smart cart technology to its member retailers.
More than 800 AWG member retailer locations already use Instacart, and this extended collaboration aims to simplify access for the other 2,300 member retailer locations to join Instacart’s technology suite.
“We’ve witnessed the tremendous value Instacart brings to many of our local independent grocers, making innovation, growth and deeper customer engagement possible,” said Shelly Moore, Chief Information Officer of AWG in a statement. “That’s why we’re partnering to streamline access to the technology and service our retail partners need to grow via a proven ecommerce offering. By partnering with Instacart, we’re making it even easier for our member retailers to bring the convenience of ecommerce to life and ultimately drive business growth.”
Instacart and AWG are working closely together to help independent retailers set up online shopping and delivery services, as well as equipping stores with technology solutions like Caper Carts smart shopping carts, which use computer vision and AI to automatically identify items as they are placed in the cart. Customers also are able to link their loyalty account to the carts, gaining access to personalized promotions and savings as they shop.

Once a grocer is live on the Instacart App, customers can visit the Instacart website or download the mobile app and select their store, then immediately begin ordering online. An Instacart shopper will then pick and deliver the order.
