Oklahoma City Is Aiming for America’s Tallest Building
January 24, 2024
California-based real estate firm Matteson Capital intends to reshape the Oklahoma City landscape with a daring new plan. The company seeks approval to construct America’s tallest building, now tipped to reach an astonishing 1,907 feet. This colossal skyscraper would not only be the tallest in the U.S. but would also rank as the world’s fifth-highest structure — a truly ambitious endeavor.
Oklahoma City is in the midst of a significant growth and transformation phase. This makes it an ideal location for large-scale projects like the proposed Boardwalk at Bricktown Tower. The development promises to be more than just a high-rise spectacle. It is poised to be an iconic destination that will stimulate economic expansion and diversification. The project aims to attract new investments, businesses, and jobs, becoming a symbol of pride for Oklahoma’s capital city.
The original zoning application for this venture proposed a main tower standing 1,750 feet tall. This still would have made the tower the tallest in Oklahoma and the U.S. runner-up. The current plan for the Boardwalk at Bricktown site includes three towers of 345 feet each. Additionally, a fourth “supertall” tower, named Legends Tower, will hopefully loom large over the city’s skyline. The impressive height of 1,907 feet is a tribute to 1907, the year Oklahoma joined the Union as the 46th state.
The project is a mixed-use marvel spread over approximately 5 million square feet. It includes a 480-room Dream Hotel by Hyatt with 85 residential serviced condominiums in the Dream Tower. Another feature is a 350-room Hyatt hotel with 100 serviced condominiums in the Legends Tower. Plus, a staggering 1,776 residential units offer a range of affordable and luxury living options. Finally, over 110,000 square feet of space will host a vibrant commercial, retail, and restaurant scene.
To top it all off, the highest floors of the super-tall tower will feature a public observatory, restaurant, and bar. These spaces offer a unique experience to enjoy breathtaking city views. Matteson Capital has teamed up with the California architecture firm AO for the building’s design. However, before breaking ground, a rezoning of the property is necessary.
Home to around 690,000 people, Oklahoma City is the state’s most populous city. It also ranks as the 20th largest city in the U.S. and has shown rapid growth from 2020 to 2022. Now, it stands ready to take its place on the skyline stage, boasting what may soon be the tallest building in America.
