Andy Dunn returns to Bonobos
June 16, 2023
Andy Dunn, co-founder of Bonobos, is rejoining the business as a brand advisor after the company was sold to WHP Global earlier this year. WHP CEO Yehuda Shmidman said of bringing Mr. Dunn back, “You get the opportunity to dive deep into why the brand was created in the first place, the success it enjoyed in the beginning years and how that happened and sort of learn from that to inspire the next chapter of growth.”
The Back and Forth Bonobos Walmart Brand
Walmart first bought the Bonobos brand from $310 million back in 2017, but has recently sold the brand to WHP Global and Express Inc. (owners of the Express brand), for $75 million.
After acquiring the Bonobos Walmart brand, WHP Global plans to stay true to the original foundation of the brand.
This is made more apparent by bringing Andy Dun back on board to make sure that the Bonobos brand adheres to its roots.
Bonobos originally began as a digital retailer-only but after scaling a large customer base and profits, it evolved into the direct-to-consumer space.
The Bonobos Walmart purchase became controversial due to the fact that Walmart’s deep discount identity at the time seemed to go against the nature of the Bonobos premium menswear line.
But now times have changed as Walmart is repositioning itself as a premium fashion retailer.
