States ending $300 jobless payouts are not seeing hiring spikes as predicted

Twenty states that opted out of the federal government’s $300-a-week benefit for unemployed workers have not seen a big jump in total workers since doing so. Economists said that there has been some shift in the workforce with more workers over 25 getting jobs and teenager employment rates falling. Missouri Gov. Mike Parson said on June 12 that ending the subsidy would mean that existing jobs in the state would be filled and thousands of new ones would come into the state. Job numbers in the state do not support that assertion.
