Shake Shack Challenges Chick-fil-A and Announces New CEO
April 8, 2024
Shake Shack, the burger spot famous for its savory patties, has made a move that seems to be aimed directly at Chick-fil-A. Its latest promotion offers a free chicken sandwich, but only on Sundays throughout April.
In its press release, Shake Shack didn’t hold back. The fast-food chain highlighted its Chicken Shack as available every day, a not-so-subtle jab at Chick-fil-A’s closed-on-Sunday tradition. What’s more, the company emphasized its use of antibiotic-free chicken, a likely reference to Chick-fil-A’s recent decision to shift away from this practice starting this spring.
The New York-based chain isn’t just talking the talk either. It has plastered posters with the slogan “Eat More Antibiotic-Free Chicken” across its locations, making its stance crystal clear.
Chick-fil-A, on the other hand, explained that its switch in chicken sourcing is driven by supply concerns. Despite this change, the chain reassured customers that it remains committed to delivering high-quality chicken that lives up to its standards.
Back to Shake Shack’s offer, you can enjoy its Chicken Shack for free on April 7, 14, 21, and 28, but there’s a catch — you have to make a minimum $10 purchase through an in-store kiosk, the Shake Shack app, or its website. Just enter the code CHICKENSUNDAY to claim your freebie.
Shake Shack has also recently announced Rob Lynch as its new chief executive officer, effective May 20, 2024. Lynch, currently serving as president and CEO of Papa John’s International, Inc., brings a wealth of experience in driving record global sales. He succeeds Randy Garutti, who will continue as CEO until May 20 before transitioning to an advisory role.
Founder and Chairman Danny Meyer expressed enthusiasm for Lynch’s appointment, praising his leadership and global brand experience. Lynch, in turn, highlighted Shake Shack’s unique qualities and expressed eagerness to lead the company into its next phase of growth. “I am very excited to work with this outstanding team to continue to write the inspirational Shake Shack story, and to help it grow into its greatest potential,” he said.
With Lynch’s extensive background in the quick-service restaurant industry, including executive roles at Arby’s and Taco Bell, Shake Shack looks forward to continued success under his leadership.
