The European Union has hit Meta with a fine of $1.3 billion for transferring the personal data of people within its member states to servers in the U.S. Meta has been ordered by the EU to stop the practice, violating General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) law. “Facebook has millions of users in Europe, so the volume of personal data transferred is massive. The unprecedented fine is a strong signal to organizations that serious infringements have far-reaching consequences,” said Andrea Jelinek, chair of the European Data Protection Board.
