Retailers from Macy’s to Walmart have pointed to expectations for robust late summer sales driven by back-to-school purchases as a cause of optimism. Phil Orlando, chief equity market strategist at Federated Hermes, expects that back-to-school will enable retailers to “catch a second wind here and run through the end of the year … into the beginning of next year.”
