McDonald’s Plans To Add 10,000 New Stores by 2027
December 6, 2023
McDonald’s announced plans to add around 10,000 new stores to its fast-food empire by 2027, targeting 50,000 restaurants in total, as a way to drive profitability. Subsequently, around 900 of those new locations are expected to be in the U.S., according to CNBC.
McDonald’s has grown by 5,000 locations in the last decade, said Manu Steijaert, the company’s executive vice president and global chief customer officer. Steijaert shared that the company took 33 years to reach its first 10,000 locations. This new expansion is the fastest pace of growth in the restaurant chain’s 68-year history.
McDonald’s officials also plan to grow loyalty members from 150 million to 250 million by 2027. Additionally, the chain will bring updates to its burgers to nearly all markets by 2026. Burgers with softer, freshly toasted buns, meltier cheese, and more Big Mac sauce will be coming to U.S. restaurants by the end of 2024 and most other markets by the end of 2025. Furthermore, the company revealed its sales of chicken sandwiches are on an even level with its burger products. McDonald’s plans to introduce its McCrispy sandwich to nearly all global markets by 2025.
“As I’ve said before, there has never been a better time to be part of Brand McDonald’s. The McDonald’s System has demonstrated exceptional execution of our Accelerating the Arches strategy and is delivering tremendous results across our key growth pillars,” said Chris Kempczinski, McDonald’s president and chief executive officer.
Kempczinski shared that McDonald’s has a clear trajectory for future growth as it builds on trusted brand strength. The fast-food giant wants to piggyback on its competitive advantages to cement the restaurant chain as one of the world’s leading brands.
The company’s recent press release outlines McDonald’s continued plans to provide value and affordability through its mobile app. The company also announced a partnership with Google Cloud, which it said will help accelerate automated services and reduce complexity for its employees. Google CEO Sundar Pichai is eager to see how McDonald’s can use “our generative AI, cloud, and edge computing tools to improve their iconic dining experience for their employees and their customers all over the world.”
