Mark Zuckerberg Is Raising Cows on Diet of Beer and Macadamia Nuts in Hawaii
January 11, 2024
Mark Zuckerberg is raising cows on the Hawaiian island of Kauai. Per a recent social media post, the tech giant is raising them on a diet of beer and macadamia nuts.
The tech executive owns $170 million of land on the Hawaiian island, where he’s building a $100 million compound. In a Facebook post, Zuckerberg revealed plans for the property. He will raise a herd of cattle on a homegrown, costly diet.
Zuckerberg shared details of his project on the social media site. He wrote, “Started raising cattle at Ko’olau Ranch on Kauai, and my goal is to create some of the highest quality beef in the world.”
He explained that the cattle are Wagyu and Angus. They will grow up eating macadamia meal and drinking beer grown and produced on his ranch.
Zuckerberg continued, “We want the whole process to be local and vertically integrated.” He revealed that each cow will eat upwards of 5,000-10,000 pounds of food yearly, “so that’s a lot of acres of macadamia trees.”
He added that his daughters Maxima, August, and Auriela are helping to plant the Macadamia trees and care for the farm’s different animals.
While it is still early in his farming journey, Zuckerberg can’t contain his excitement about the future. He wrote that of all his projects, this was the most “delicious.”
The project comes nearly 10 years after he acquired acreage in the state for the first time. In addition to Hawaii, the billionaire has real estate in Palo Alto, California, and Lake Tahoe, California.
According to an in-depth investigation by Wired, Zuckerburg’s compound reportedly includes an underground bunker with a concrete-filled metal door and 11 tree houses connected by rope bridges. The main residential buildings on the compound are two mansions believed to have a gym, sauna, hot tub, cold plunge, tennis court, and pools.
There are also numerous guest houses, which are believed to have a combined 30 bedrooms and 30 bathrooms, per the outlet.
