Month-over-month retail sales show consumers cutting back

Retail sales in March were down one percent from February as consumers spent less on gas (-5.5 percent), building supplies (-2.1 percent), electronics (-2.1 percent) and apparel (-1.7 percent). February’s sales were also down, although not as much as previously reported, at -0.2 percent.
