LG Created a Two-Legged AI-Powered Robot That Can Watch Your Pets
January 1, 2024
LG has invented a compact, mobile, two-legged robot that it will be bringing to the market in 2024. The AI-powered robot has a broad range of capabilities, from greeting you at the door and moving around the house independently to informing you that you left your AC on and taking care of your pets, according to Engadget.
The product, which will be showcased in Las Vegas at CES 2024, has similar functionalities to some of the stationary smart home products on the market, such as Alexa and the Apple HomePod. However, on top of having the ability to move around, this new robot can also tell you what the weather forecast is and remind you to take your medications in a timely manner.
This new invention is powered by Qualcomm’s Robotics RB5 Platform (designed to support large industrial and enterprise robots as well as small battery-operated robots with demanding power and thermal energy requirements), and it includes a combination of both software and hardware that runs the machine’s AI program. It has face and voice recognition capabilities, it processes the emotions of those surrounding it, and it also engages in conversations.
According to LG, the robot can study your emotions and play music to lift your mood if you are not in a good one, it can portray emotion through its posture, and it can even calm you down when you need to go to sleep.
It comes packed with other useful features as well, such as a camera in its face, a number of different sensors, and a speaker that provides the capability to navigate, listen, and speak when needed. It can also measure air quality and temperature, but it isn’t very clear as to whether it can be connected to a smart home system to control the thermostat.
LG has not yet confirmed the price of the robot or responded to comments about the uncertainties mentioned above.
As the robot has the ability to move around independently, it can take care of your pets while you’re gone and notify your smartphone if anything unusual is detected in the process. It also plays the role of a mobile security guard by sending you notifications if there is any unexpected movement in the house while you’re out.
