Tim Wentworth is the New CEO of Walgreens
October 23, 2023
Walgreens Boots Alliance has confirmed the appointment of Tim Wentworth, former CEO of Express Scripts, as its new CEO. Wentworth’s distinguished career in the healthcare industry, including steering Express Scripts through its $54 billion acquisition by health insurance titan Cigna in 2018, aligns with Walgreens’ intent to fill its top executive role with a healthcare veteran. This desire was triggered by the resignation of Rosalind Brewer last month.
Stefano Pessina, the executive chairman of Walgreens Boots Alliance and its largest individual shareholder, praised Wentworth’s deep healthcare knowledge and leadership skills. He expressed confidence in Wentworth’s ability to guide Walgreens towards becoming a customer-focused healthcare company.
With over 30 years of experience in the healthcare sector, Wentworth most recently served as CEO of Evernorth, Cigna’s health services arm with revenues exceeding $100 billion, which also encompasses Express Scripts. His leadership during Express Scripts’ sale to Cigna came amid a broader industry trend of integrating pharmacy benefits managers with health plans to achieve better prescription medicine buying outcomes and increased transparency.
