Oscar Mayer Will Hire Hotdoggers for $35,600 To Drive the Weinermobile
January 8, 2024
Are you someone who enjoys adventure and wouldn’t mind touring the country in one of America’s most iconic vehicles? If yes, you might be one of the people Oscar Mayer is seeking. The brand is currently on the hunt for its next set of Hotdoggers, who are essentially paid ambassadors. As a Hotdogger, you get to spend your days on the road driving the brand’s famed Wienermobiles.
Oscar Mayer plans to employ 12 drivers for its 27-foot-long hot dog-shaped vehicles — that’s as long as 54 hot dogs put together. The mission for these new recruits is to become the face of the brand and travel in the unique Wienermobiles across the United States for an entire year, starting from June 2024 until June 2025.
So what does a day in the life of a Hotdogger look like? They are essentially running a mobile PR firm. Hotdoggers are “key content contributors to all of our social media channels. It’s some of the highest performing content for all of [parent company] Kraft Heinz,” according to Ed Roland, who runs the Wienermobile program.
Oscar Mayer’s fleet consists of six Wienermobiles. Hotdoggers will be paired up and host over 200 pop-up events throughout the year. Some of the responsibilities include pitching to and making appearances on “local television, radio, or newspaper media,” per the job listing.
For anyone interested in this unique opportunity, driving records will be necessary, but you won’t need any special license to drive. The typical Wienermobile driver journeys an impressive 20,000 miles annually, visiting no less than 40 cities.
This role isn’t just about fun and adventure; it demands commitment. Hotdoggers may have to work on major holidays and spend much of the year away from home. On the brighter side, they will be paid a base salary of $35,600, get a weekly allowance of $150 for meals and personal travel, and receive health benefits and 18 days of paid time off. All hotel expenses will also be covered by the company.
Oscar Mayer’s Wienermobile program is highly popular. Annually, they receive up to 1,500 applications for the 12 available seats. One year, they even peaked at 7,000 applications. Applications for this opportunity are open until the end of January.
