If that sounds like you, you’re in the right place because we’re comparing Uscreen and Teachable’s features one by one to help you make an informed decision. We’ll also take a gander at their pricing structure and evaluate their overall user experiences.

Does that sound good to you? Fab. There’s lots to get through, so let’s get cracking!

What’s Uscreen?

Uscreen vs Teachable

Launched in 2015, Uscreen enables content creators to assemble, manage, and monetize their video library and establish streaming and subscription services delivered via a secure, custom environment. Its focus is very much on video-based content.

Uscreen also empowers content creators to track the performance of their videos and optimize their user experience.

Interestingly, in 2021, the total watch time of live streams fuelled by Uscreen sat at 338,000ย hours. On top of that, some Uscreen users generated an average of $12,000ย a month. So, with those stats in mind, we think itโ€™s safe to say this platform is doing something right!ย

What’s Teachable?

Uscreen vs Teachable

Launched in 2014, Teachable is a learning management system (LMS) thatโ€™s enjoyed much acclaim. In 2020 around 6,000 active creators earned a combined total of $400 million!ย

With Teachable, instructors can easily create and manage engaging courses using multiple media types, track student progress, and collect payments. It also comes with marketing automation functionality, amongst other tools, to help instructors turn their knowledge into a successful online business.

Unlike Uscreen, Teachable focuses more on the student experience and comes with features explicitly designed to engage your learners, such as quizzes, certifications, live group coaching, and more.

Uscreen vs Teachable: Course and Website Building

Uscreen

Uscreen is primarily designed for hosting a variety of video content. It wasnโ€™t specifically designed with course creation in mind. Nonetheless, you can use its comprehensive suite of toolsย to create and manage video-based courses stress-free.ย

The drag-and-drop builder allows you to quickly and easily build a fully-hosted, SEO-friendly website with no coding skills required. You can choose from a selection of pre-made themes and use the advanced design editor to create a unique look for your website. You can play around with your pages’ typography, visuals, and assets. For instance, you can add workbooks and PDFs to accompany your videos.

For creating courses and lessons, you can upload and organize video content into playlists, chapters, or episodes. This means you can guide students through your video course one class at a time and easily label what they can expect to learn. The intuitive user interface makes it easy to schedule content. It also ensures excellent video playback to give users high-quality content no matter where they are.

Teachable

When you create a Teachable account, youโ€™re provided with a fully-hosted website called your school. From here, you can sell your courses and/or coaching sessions.

Where course creation is concerned, you can use its drag-and-drop interface and pick from three customizable templates:

  1. Classic
  2. Simple
  3. Colossal

The classic template is for anyone who wants to jump straight into course creation. The simple template best serves short, quick courses with a clear overview, and the Colossal template better organizes long, multi-faceted, more complicated courses. However, aside from layout changes, the course pages all look similar. Itโ€™s up to you to edit the font, logo, and colors to suit your brand

Instructors can add pre-recorded video lectures, audio files, quizzes, and assessments to their courses. You can also upload and share handouts and add co-instructors to your courses.

In addition, Teachable offers a variety of tools to help you create interactive classes, including

  • Discussion forums (This feature is provided via Teachableโ€™s integration with Circle.so, where teachers can create user forums and manage a community. Youโ€™ll need a Circle.so account and plan)
  • Students can create their own profiles – Learners can edit their user name and login details and review the courses theyโ€™ve purchased under โ€œmy courses.โ€
  • Marketing tools – You can send newsletters to students and edit Teachableโ€™s automated email templates. Teachable also integrates with various email service providers for more advanced features.
  • Instructors can create custom forms and surveys to capture student feedback.
  • Instructors can also easily communicate with students via email announcements and in-course messaging.
  • Course compliance settings- you can ensure students are only marked to have completed a course once theyโ€™ve watched the required content and completed the necessary quizzes
  • You can create graded and ungraded quizzes with multiple-choice questions. You and your students can also receive progress reports based on these results.

Winner: Teachable

Uscreen vs Teachable: Monetization

Uscreen

Uscreen supports a wide range of monetization strategies, including:

  • One-time purchases (as well as bundles for a one-time fee)
  • Subscriptions – offer access for a recurring fee.
  • Pay-per-view – viewers pay a one-time fee to access your content just once
  • Rentals – charge for limited-time access
  • Free trials and freemium products
  • Lifetime access to all your content
  • Sell access to live streams.
  • Your own affiliate program

Uscreen enables you to accept customer payments from major credit cards, Stripe, Paypal, Authorise.Net, and their own payment gateway, which is on par with the various payment options Teachable offers.

Uscreen also makes it easy to manage both your subscribers and contributors. For example, you can easily track royalties and payouts to your various video authors. You can even automatically track how many seconds each video was watched by consumers and pay out royalties to your content creators accordingly.

Teachable

Teachable‘s monetization options enable you to capitalize on your live coaching sessions and online courses. For example, you can choose to offer your customers the following:

  • One-time payments
  • Free trials
  • Subscription plans
  • Payment plans that allow users to pay in more manageable installments.

On top of the above, you can also create your own affiliate program. Here you can provide customers with affiliate links and award them a commission when they generate a sale via said link.

You can also create pricing tiers that unlock different access levels to your course. You can also customize pricing based on enrollment caps, ensuring that only a limited number of students can join specific courses.

Lastly, itโ€™s worth noting that you can accept customer payments via Paypal, Teachableโ€™s own gateway, and Google and Apple Pay.

Winner: Uscreenย

Uscreen vs Teachable: Marketing

Uscreen

Uscreenโ€™s core marketing features are as follows:

  • You can create customizable and attractive landing pages to promote your content.
  • You can also create automated email campaigns tailored to meet the needs of students depending on which stage theyโ€™re at in their user journey. For instance, you can set up out-of-the-box giveaways, abandoned cart emails, and try-for-free campaigns.
  • Create lead-capture forms and build giveaway funnels. Uscreenโ€™s marketing funnels allow you to create email sequences triggered when customers subscribe to your newsletter or make an account.
  • Create exclusive offers and discounts to entice viewers to subscribe or buy your content
  • Build responsive sales and product pages for any purpose, and customize them with your logo, colors, and other branding elements
  • Add an upsell offer at the end of the checkout workflow to encourage buyers to purchase higher-level plans.

Teachable

Teachableโ€™s most notable marketing features are as follows:

  • Coupon creation
  • You can bundle your products.
  • You can upsell customers on your checkout page.
  • You also add deals to your lectures (videos). Here, a button will appear as an ad underneath your content. When viewers click on this button, it will take them to a checkout page where they can make their purchases.
  • You can generate referral codes where students earn a discount when they successfully recommend your course to someone. Here, you just set the coupon type as a โ€˜referral,โ€™ decide how much the referrer gets off and then distribute the code however you wish.
  • Using Teachableโ€™s website editor, you can add sign-up forms as blocks to your schoolโ€™s homepage and integrate them with the mailing service of your choice to grow your mailing list.

Winner: Uscreen

Uscreen vs Teachable: Analytics

Uscreen

Uscreen offers comprehensive analytics to help creators understand their viewership, revenue, and target audience. This information lets users make educated decisions about their content and business strategies.

Some of Uscreenโ€™s most notable analytic features include:

  • The real-time tracking of customer views and purchases
  • Detailed customer segmentation to identify high-value audiences, i.e., by country and device
  • Detailed analytics on content usage, including watch time and engagement metrics
  • Reporting on customer behavior, including the average number of purchases per customer, average revenue per customer, and payment method preferences
  • In-depth content analytics like watch time, views, views per live event, the devices customers log in with, countries of origin, watch time per author, and more.
  • The ability to view analytics at both aggregate and individual customer levels
  • Integrations with third-party analytics services like Google Analytics for more insights

Teachable

Unfortunately, Teachable doesnโ€™t directly provide data on page visits, ad performance, and conversion rates. Instead, they recommend using a third-party integration like the Facebook Pixel or Google Analytics to retrieve this information.

However, with Teachableโ€™s Pro and Advanced plans (more about pricing in a sec!), you can track student enrollments, completion rates, and course engagement. With these insights, you can identify which courses are performing well and which need improving.

Additionally, you can monitor overall student activity, such as how much time they spend on each course, which modules they complete, and more.

But unfortunately, the fact that advanced reporting is only available on some of the most expensive plans means this vital feature is missing for those on a budget

Uscreen vs Teachable: Our Final Verdict

So, that’s all for our Uscreen vs Teachable review! The answer to which platform is better, Uscreen or Teachable, depends on your individual needs and goals.ย

Uscreen offers a wide selection of features, including advanced analytics and intuitive video delivery. While on the other hand, Teachable provides easy yet, powerful course-creation features and a greater variety of student engagement tools.

Each platform has its strengths and weaknesses, so it’s best to evaluate them against your own criteria before concluding.

However, after considering the factors above – we have to go with Uscreen if youโ€™re delivering a video-based course. In contrast, if youโ€™re focusing on other media types, i.e., text-based courses, Teachable will likely be a better fit.

Uscreen has more robust analytics and engagement features for its video content and enables you to monetize video streams with much more flexibility. So, if all your course content is delivered through video, youโ€™ll benefit from Uscreenโ€™s more advanced tools. Of course, this is also the case if youโ€™re just publishing video content for entertainment and branding purposes.

Teachable, however, provides more in the way of student engagement features, such as comment sections, forums, and quizzes. Its sole focus is course creation, but its video features are limited, and it doesnโ€™t offer much in the way of distribution channels and monetization options.

Over to you – let us know your thoughts on Uscreen and Teachable in the comments box below Or are you considering an alternative like Thinkific, Podia, Udemy or Kajabi? Either way, let us know!
