Five Guys Gets Blasted on Social Media for Outrageous Prices
March 7, 2024
Social media users have recently taken to criticizing Five Guys for what they claim are exorbitant prices for its burgers and fries. A user going by the name Wall Street Silver posted a receipt totaling $24.10 for a bacon cheeseburger, soda, and a small order of fries, expressing outrage at the cost for a single person.
Although the restaurant hasn’t responded to the criticisms directly, prices listed on its website show a wide range, with items in New York ranging from $6 to over $13. In addition to burgers, Five Guys also offers milkshakes for $5.89.
Across different locations, prices can vary significantly. For instance, a bacon cheeseburger can cost $12.99 in Columbus, Ohio, $13.09 in New York City, and $14.39 in Los Angeles.
In New York City specifically, the menu offers a variety of options at varying price points. The cheapest burger, the Little Hamburger, goes for $8.89, while the priciest, the Bacon Cheeseburger, is $13.09. Similarly, hot dogs range from $7.29 to $8.49, and sandwiches vary from $6.69 to $8.29.
When it comes to fries, customers can opt for the cheapest option of Little Fries or Little Cajun Fries at $5.89 or splurge on Large Fries or Large Cajun Fries for $7.99. Drinks range from $2.49 for a bottled water to $3.69 for a large drink.
The debate over Five Guys’ prices has sparked various opinions among customers. Some agree with the criticisms, labeling it “highway robbery,” while others defend the restaurant, noting the generous portion sizes, particularly for fries.
Comparing Five Guys to other fast-food chains in New York City reveals a notable difference in pricing. While a basic burger at Five Guys starts at $8.89, competitors such as McDonald’s offer hamburgers for as little as $3.29, illustrating the divergence in pricing strategies among fast-food establishments.
