Not even nine months after introducing its wedding registry in May 2023, Etsy has delivered a new baby registry service for shoppers. Current and expecting parents can register for personalized baby, nursery and kids’ items from makers all over the world.
“With someone searching for a ‘baby item’ on Etsy every second, it’s clear that shoppers are seeking alternatives to mass-produced baby and kids items,” wrote Dayna Isom Johnson, resident Trend Expert at Etsy in a blog post. “This expanded Etsy Registry allows shoppers to celebrate even more of life’s special moments with gifts they can’t get anywhere else.”
Etsy also identified key gifting trends in this area, including:
- Vintage and heirloom pieces: With many parents opting for names popular in the past, like Eleanor, Theodore, Evelyn and Silas, gift-givers are seeking vintage-inspired and heirloom children’s items to match. During the past three months, Etsy has seen a 270% increase in searches for custom toy boxes compared to the same period the previous year, as well as an 80% increase in handmade toy searches;
- Farm animals: Taking cues from the recent popularity of Cottagecore and Western décor and style trends, Etsy has seen a 126% increase in searches for cow nursery items and a 93% increase in duck nursery items; and
- Flower themes: There’s been a rise in flower baby names like Jasmine, Daisy, Lily and Violet, and that’s aligned with a 136% increase in searches for daisy nursery items and a 116% increase in wildflower art searches.
