Getaway, which hosts guests in tiny cabins located in forests and nature areas at least two hours from cities, is partnering with Walmart for the debut of The General Store by Walmart at select outposts. Beginning in fall 2022, Getaway guests will have access to a mini-retail experience that sells seasonal products from Walmart, the travel company’s first official retail partner.

While the mission of Getaway is to encourage guests to disconnect from their highly digital everyday lives, before they do so they will be able to do pre-trip shopping via a Getaway shopping page on Walmart.com. Customers who visit a Getaway Outpost over the next year will also receive a complimentary Walmart+ trial.

“Walmart’s partnership with Getaway furthers our mission to help people live better no matter where they are,” said Casey Schlaybaugh, VP of Brand Marketing at Walmart U.S in a statement. “We are going beyond just saving people money by enabling guests to maximize Getaway’s experience and empowering them to spend more quality time with those who matter most.”

The first location is scheduled to open in August at Getaway Hill Country in Wimberly, Texas, near Austin and San Antonio, with additional General Stores planned through the end of the year at:

  • Getaway Western Catskills in Roscoe, N.Y.; and

Each General Store will feature products such as hiking gear, supplies for leisure activities and equipment including FujiFilm cameras, Lodge Cast Iron Skillets, Pendleton Outdoor Blankets and Burt’s Bees lip balm. Guests who stay at select Getaway locations over the next six months will receive Welcome Kits that include ingredients for s’mores upon check-in.

“At Getaway, our mission is to help people disconnect and spend time in nature,” said Carlos Becil, Chief Experience Officer at Getaway. “In partnering with Walmart, we are able to amplify our efforts to a larger audience and provide our guests with more free time, helping them prepare for their stays and enjoy the comforts of nature once they arrive.”
