DICK’S Sporting Goods will open four new locations of its outdoor specialty retail brand Public Lands this fall, including its first locations in the Southeast and Northwestern U.S. Nearly one year after launching the concept with a 50,000-square-foot store in Pittsburgh, the Public Lands footprint will more than double its brick-and-mortar presence as it expands to include stores in:

  • Framingham, Mass. on Oct. 14;
  • Melville, N.Y. on Oct. 21;
  • Kennesaw, Ga. on Oct. 28; and
  • Medford, Ore. on Nov. 4.

To encourage equity in the outdoors, Public Lands locations showcase gear for activities including biking, camping, fishing, paddling, skiing, climbing, running and hiking in specialized in-store shops dedicated to each interest. Additionally, the retailer offers in-store gear repair and a rental department.

The inaugural Pittsburgh location, along with a 60,000-square-foot store that opened in Columbus, Ohio in November 2021 and a 50,000-square-foot Charlottesville, Va. location that debuted in June 2022, each feature 30-foot rock walls. While these features contribute to the stores’ outdoor-influenced design scheme, they primarily function as rappelling and bouldering practice spaces for beginner levels and beyond.

Public Lands, which donates 1% of sales to the Public Lands Fund to support local and national conservation efforts, provided more than $500,000 to 15 local and national conservation and outdoor equity partners during its first year of operation. In honor of National Public Lands Day on Sept. 24, 2022, Public Lands will double its 1% of sales giveback efforts in stores and online from Sept. 18-25.

“When we first opened Public Lands, we set out to make a difference not just for our national public lands, but also for our local communities and organizations supporting outdoor recreation for all,” said Todd Spaletto, President of Public Lands in a statement.
