Convenience store retailer Royal Farms will implement NCR Corporation’s self-checkout solutions in all of its more than 250 locations. The technology is expected to boost staff efficiency while improving the in-store experience for customers.
“We introduced the first NCR self-checkout solutions in 2019, and while we saw direct benefits in the same year, it really took off in 2021 when many of our customers steered to touch-free interactions,” said Shelby Kemp, Project Manager Marketing at Royal Farms in a statement.
Self-checkout has become an important option for today’s touch-conscious shoppers, and its adoption is only expected to increase. Market research firm RBR expects the uptake of self-checkout to reach 1.2 million units by 2025. Other retailers that have implemented low-touch checkout solutions recently include:
- Oklahoma-based grocery retailer Homeland, which deployed self-checkout in four lanes at 80 stores to help shoppers check out faster; and
- Delek DK, which implemented a system that lets shoppers place items on a kiosk tray and have them all recognized and totaled without the need to scan any barcodes.
