Technology is evolving at a faster rate than ever before, and it can be difficult to keep up with all of the new innovations. Aside from the revolutionary VoIP, or phone calls made over an internet connection, from Ooma, here are three important tech trends to keep an eye on:

1. Artificial Intelligence

Artificial Intelligence (AI), has been around for many years now, but we are just beginning to learn how this technology can provide incredible benefits to humanity. The base of AI is image and speech recognition, though it can perform other important tasks, such as navigation, analyzing human behavior, and making sound diagnoses in hospitals based on the available data.

Although many view AI as a scary form of technology, it can bring plenty of good to the table, especially for business owners of large and small companies.

2. Blockchain

Blockchain is most often talked about in the cryptocurrency space, but it has unlimited potential for other real-world applications. Blockchain is notoriously difficult to explain, but the basic premise is that it is a chain of data that you can only add to. Previous data cannot be deleted or altered, and each data point is signed off with a digital signature by the owner to validate it.

Blockchains are also intriguing because the data stays secure through consensus-driven mechanisms, meaning that no single person or entity can compromise or control the data. In a world where data and security are at the forefront of many people's minds, blockchain is likely a technology trend that will stick around.

3. 5G

Back when smartphones were first launched, 3G was the only option to connect to the internet using cell service instead of a Wi-Fi connection. 4G came after, and it provided a faster and more reliable connection. Now, many companies are rolling out 5G, which is significantly more powerful than its predecessors.

For everyday people, 5G will enable us to use fascinating technologies like virtual reality (VR) while we are out and about. For businesses, 5G may be able to drastically improve product manufacturing by increasing speed and reducing costs to produce more goods than ever. For cities, 5G could help make cities safer and smarter by collecting more traffic data and helping to route emergency vehicles in real-time.

Technology trends are constantly changing in an attempt to make our lives better. These three trends could have a massive impact on life as we know it in the coming years.
