The 12” takeaway pizzas are available in Loaded Cheese, Loaded Pepperoni, New Chicken & Bacon, and New Manhattan Meaty. Stores can use their existing ovens and hot holds to cook the pizza in just 6-12 minutes. Pizza can be sold in quarters, half slices or full pizzas.

Chicago Town can provide retailers with disposables, point of sale, and display solutions.

Richard Cooper, senior brand manager at Dr Oetker, said: “Food-to-go continues to grow and is set to reach £22.8bn by 2023. Most operators are experiencing double-digit sales growth year on year from food to go and now our self-serve pizza to go concept can help them take it to the next level.”

He added: “Consumers want to be able to grab and go in-store and so self-serve offerings are extremely important right now. Our new solution is helping retailers like Spar bring in new shoppers, as well as retaining existing shoppers and increasing their basket spend at the same time.”

Spar in New Chapel Street, Blackburn, which is run by store manager Teresa Southworth, has been trialling the self-serve concept for the past few months. Southworth said: “Food-to-go has come a long way in the past few years. People are always in a hurry at the moment. They want things now to grab and go.”

She added: “Chicago Town self-serve pizza to go is doing very well for us at the moment. We are making good money out of it. We’re happy and obviously the customers are happy. We started off with two flavours of pizzas and now we are up to three. We do them in quarter and half slices, as well as full pizzas. The profits from those are really good.”
