One Stop, Spar and Bargain Booze, plus small local stores, have reportedly signed up to ‘Cash in Shop’, which allows customers to choose when and where they collect money, with no need to buy anything. Consumers use an app to see which shops have cash and pre-order it to collect in minutes, for free. The app will also let customers have money delivered with their groceries or takeaways.

The service, run by finance firm Sonect, launches in Burslem, Staffordshire, next month.

The concept, which has already been successfully trialled in Switzerland, is part of the government’s Community Access to Cash Pilot.

Sonect’s UK director, Ron Delnevo, said: “It is the first stage of a national rollout which will see this new and innovative way of accessing cash made available to everyone.”
