Costcutter marketing director Sean Russell said: “As soon as Scotland’s first minister, Nicola Sturgeon, announced the use of face coverings in shops would be mandatory from 10 July, we wanted to ensure our retailers had free POS materials available and guidance to communicate this to their shoppers.

“We’re also extending our provision of free unbranded signage for any Scottish independent retailer, to ensure their shoppers know that face coverings will be mandatory and the two-metre social distancing measures remain in place.

“The welfare of independent retailers, their staff, shoppers and our colleagues remains our number one priority and we wanted to make sure our Scottish retailers could rapidly adjust to the new guidelines.

“We continue to be inspired by our store owners, many of whom are going that extra mile to support their local communities.

“We also wanted to share some of the resources and support we have developed with the wider retailer community.”
