Sainsbury’s began a trial of its wholesale delivery service with Simply Fresh at the start of 2020, providing branded and own-label products to two of the group’s stores, in London and Kenilworth, Warwickshire.

Simply Fresh said today that “following the successful completion of the trial”, the two companies would be rolling out the partnership.

Richard Hodges, head of sales and wholesale buying at Sainsbury’s, said: “For progressive independent retailers operating convenience stores – on the high street or petrol forecourts –  Simply Fresh is Sainsbury’s route to market for wholesale supply.

“Sainsbury’s is delighted to support Simply Fresh, supplying high-quality own-brand products along with branded products across all categories to Simply Fresh and Simply Local stores nationwide.”

Steve Drake, commercial director at Simply Fresh, said: “We know customers love Sainsbury’s range of own-brand products and we are very excited to bring independent retailers this opportunity.”

Existing Simply Fresh and Simply Local stores will continue to be supplied by Costcutter Supermarkets Group, while new joiners that meet the criteria will be able to opt for the Sainsbury’s supply arrangement.

Other joiners who do not meet the criteria can continue to sign up to the Costcutter package.
