The donation was given to Medway Pride CIC through Nisa’s Making a Difference Locally (MADL) charity.

Medway Pride CIC is a volunteer-led organisation that promotes equality and diversity in the Medway area.

The Medway Pride festival is the charity’s flagship event, and it attracts thousands of people from across the region each year.

Shell Medway manager Stephen Pocknall said: “We at Shell Medway are proud to support Pride in all capacities. We believe everyone should be able to be themselves and celebrate their identity, and we are committed to creating a more inclusive and welcoming community.”

Medway Pride CIC chair Sarah Jones said: “We are incredibly grateful to Shell Medway for their generous donation. This will help us to continue our work of promoting equality and diversity in Medway. We are excited to use the funds to support our upcoming events and activities.”

The Pride festival will take place next Saturday (23 September).

The donation came via MADL’s Pride Pot, launched in June. The Pride Pot is worth £50,000 to donate through Nisa retailers to support LGBTQ+ community groups and charities.

Kate Carroll, head of charity at Nisa, added: “We were so pleased to be able to offer dedicated funding for LGBTQ+ communities and I’m delighted Shell Medway are one of the first retailers to access this funding for their community in Kent.”
