The expansion follows highly successful pilots in West Lothian, North Lanarkshire, and South Lanarkshire.

Scotmid will offer more than 1,000 product lines via the Snappy Shopper app or at www.snappyshopper.co.uk, which are picked, packed, and delivered by Scotmid staff to the customer within an hour.

Customers can order for delivery within an hour between 10am to 9pm. Slots are made available every 24 hours and booked on a first-come, first-served basis.

Stewart Dobbie, head of innovation and change at Scotmid, said: “Snappy Shopper is enabling us to provide on-demand, simple, digital convenience to our customers and the positive feedback we receive daily from customers in areas where Snappy Shopper is in place supported our decision to expand the offering.

“Our move into the capital marks the next step in our drive to enhance our food offering to existing and new customers.”

Mark Steven, chief executive of Snappy Shopper, added: “The Snappy Shopper platform is designed and built specifically for the convenience store market and is based entirely on working in partnership with retailers to drive incremental new sales. This in turn assists retailers in supporting the needs of their communities.

“No other platform has the functionality that Snappy Shopper offers. It drives incremental new sales for our top stores in excess of £10,000 per week under normal trading conditions, with our top-performing store achieving £40,000 per week during the Covid-19 crisis.”

The first delivery for every Scotmid customer is free when they sign up on the app, with subsequent deliveries across Edinburgh costing just £3.50. There is a £10 minimum basket spend with a limit of 25 products per delivery.
