Man who threatened Liverpool shop assistant with gun appears in court

Following a firearms incident at a convenience store in Liverpool on Wednesday, 3 January, Merseyside Police has charged a man with firearms offences.

A shop assistant was threatened when the man demanded cash before firing a gun into the ceiling.

CCTV showed the gunman in a green jacket and flip flops in the Sangha newsagents moments before he is alleged to have shot at people in the nearby Showcase cinema.

Leslie Garrett, 49 years, from Ternhall Road, Fazakerley, has been charged with possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life; two counts of possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence; attempt robbery and possession of ammunition without a certificate.

Garrett appeared at Liverpool and Knowsley Magistrates Court on Saturday, 6 January. He was remanded into custody and is expected to appear at Liverpool Crown Court in February.
