Ferrero expands Christmas portfolio with £3m investment

Ferrero is expanding its seasonal portfolio for Christmas 2020, including novelties, figures, and boxed chocolates.

Levi Boorer, customer development director at Ferrero, said: “Christmas is always an important point in the calendar for the confectionery industry, presenting a great opportunity for shoppers to enjoy the festive spirit.

“It’s important therefore that we offer the right products that meet the different shopper missions and needs and will help retailers to grow their sales during this period.”

Ferrero will be adding three “new and remastered” flavours to its Thorntons Classic chocolate box this year, including new recipes for Nutty Caramel, Tempting Toffee, and Creamy Fudge, as well as the addition of an Orange Blush flavour.

Thorntons Continental boxed chocolates will also see new recipes for its Hazelnut Milano and Viennese Deluxe selection.

In the children’s confectionery category, Kinder will be launching eight new toys for its seasonal festive friends range, including 36g versions of Santa, a penguin, a snowman, and a Bear (£1.89).

The Kinder Surprise 100g egg (£6.35) will also receive a new Reindeers in Lunapark toy range and larger 220g egg (£12) will have new Magical Enchantress or Jungle Trucks toys.

Kinder Chocolate will also launch two new additions to the fluffy toy novelties range launched in 2019, with the addition of Squirrel and Sloth toys (£7.51).

The new figures will sit alongside the returning Reindeer and Polar Bear options from Kinder.

Kinder Chocolate will also add a new 55g (£1.50) and 110g (£2.50) hollow Santa figure, that consists of a fine milk chocolate and milky white lining in a distinctive seasonal shape.

Ferrero is also refreshing its Kinder advent calendar (135g; £5.65) with a new pack design and will be adding a new design for its Ferrero Collection Advent Calendar (271g; £14).

In the spreads category, Nutella will be launching a seasonal pack design for its 200g, 400g, 750g, and 1kg jars, featuring christmas jumpers “ideal for encouraging shoppers to get into the festive spirit”. The launch will be supported by a “Spread Your Love” campaign.
