Retailer Alan Kasch, who has owned and run the store in Fernhill Heath, Worcestershire, for the past 39 years, was nominated for the award by his local community for the efforts he went to in order to ensure that they had all the groceries they needed during the pandemic.

Kasch was working up to 100 hours per week at the height of the pandemic to bring groceries and supplies to the village. He worked with his local parish council throughout the crisis and personally packed and delivered food to his elderly and vulnerable customers. He has worked in the Worcestershire store – which is also the village post office – all his life.

He said: “I’m absolutely delighted to have been recognized by our local community in this way, but it’s my staff who deserve the credit. While I’m out delivering, they are manning the post office, serving on the tills and cooking in the bakery. It is truly a team effort.

“Some of our shoppers have supported us for 39 years, so it was a pleasure to be able to help them when they needed it most.”
