AF Blakemore Group commercial director, Jerry Marwood, told said: “Next year is going to be as competitive as ever. Customers will want better value, better choice, and better quality. They’ll want it delivered in a way corporate businesses can’t replicate, and that is our opportunity.”

Blakemore’s new distribution centre is due to open in Bedford in the first quarter of 2021, which will enable the group to “pass on savings to retailers and provide a better service”.

“It is a massive statement of intent from our business into our industry and confidence in your future,” Marwood added.

He said Blakemore also acquired online wholesaler and retailer Vegan Store in August to “stay ahead of food trends”.

Blakemore has also been collaborating within the Spar business and a result of this collaboration – a new Natural range – will be in stores next January. “It’s been timed to arrive when consumers are shopping more conscientiously,” Marwood added.

In addition, AF Blakemore & Son chairman Peter Blakemore told the show that the company has outperformed the market since the pandemic began. “The figures are looking good,” he added.

More than 500 people are expected to take part in the virtual show.
