Welcome Co-operative unveils £1.6m store on outskirts of Bristol

The community of Backwell, situated in Nailsea just outside Bristol, is set to welcome a new addition to its retail landscape as the Welcome co-operative brand opens its latest convenience store on Station Rd.

Welcome Co-op Backwell promises to redefine convenience shopping in the area, providing essential services and delivering a fresh, modern shopping experience for locals.

Representing a significant investment in the local community, with £1.6m spent on acquiring and refurbishing the premises, the new store spans 2100 square feet of retail space and 1500 square feet of ancillary facilities, which includes a petrol forecourt, free parking spaces, and a customer toilet.

Led by manager Kim Anderson, the store has created 15 new job opportunities. Emphasising its commitment to community welfare, Welcome Co-op Backwell pledges to support local charities in due course.”We are thrilled to open the new Welcome Co-op store in Backwell,” said Anderson, store manager.

“Our team is dedicated to providing exceptional service and a diverse range of products to meet the needs of our valued customers. We look forward to becoming an integral part of the Backwell community and serving its residents.”Welcome Co-op Backwell is the latest Welcome store to open in Bristol in partnership with a regional, independent co-operative – Southern Co-op.

The store’s grand opening on 8 May kicked off with a formal ribbon-cutting ceremony at 11 am, followed by a giveaway from Harvest cupcakes, and complimentary product samples from brands such as Monster Energy and Rollover hot dogs.

Local musician Billy Driscoll provided entertainment, the first 20 customers received free goodie bags, and those spending £20 or more were treated to a complimentary bottle of wine, subject to availability and age restrictions.

Conveniently located near the train station, with extended operating hours from 6 am to 11 pm Monday to Saturday, and 7 am to 11 pm on Sundays, the store also includes food-to-go such as Rollover hot dogs, Dunkin’ Donuts, Calippo slush, Hershey’s, and Costa coffee.
