Retailers will be able to offer home deliveries using their local taxi company thanks to a new tool from technology company Autocab.

The Delivery Point tool enables customers to place orders over the phone, app or web. They can choose to pay the retailer or pay the taxi company, by way of an SMS link that covers the delivery and shopping charge in one transaction.

Customers can view which stores and takeaways are offering this delivery option in their local area, and what is available to purchase in those stores, by looking on their taxi firm’s app.

Safa Alkateb, chief executive of Autocab, said: “During the coronavirus pandemic, we’ve seen an immediate need for increased delivery capacity from retailers – this has been vital, particularly to ensure essential goods reach those who are vulnerable and self-isolating.

“As the lockdown eases and smaller businesses start to get back on their feet, we want to help independent retailers continue to support their customers by offering an efficient home-delivery solution.

“The delivery space is a fast-growing market – it has accelerated during Covid-19 and we expect it to grow further in the months to come. This is a huge opportunity for the taxi industry to build their business around delivery of products, as well as transporting people.”
