Tinned grocery brand Princes is rolling out fully recyclable packs for its tuna multi-packs, as part of its goal to make all of its packaging 100% recyclable, reusable or compostable by 2025.

The four-pack is available in cardboard sleeves now and will be followed by packs of three in September and six-packs in March 2022.

Princes has also invested £1.2m in a campaign for its tinned fish products focusing on sustainability, including TV, digital and social media advertising.

Neil Bohannon, group director at Princes, said: “The move of our multi-packs to cardboard is an important stage of our journey towards being plastic free – something we know is vitally important to our consumers.

“We will continue to invest in this despite the other challenges faced in the current climate, demonstrating our commitment to our own sustainability journey as well as the support we can offer our consumers.”

In September, Princes unveiled research which showed that one-third of households have become “greener” since lockdown came into effect.

The study found that more than half admitted they never used to take sustainability seriously, although they have completely changed that since the lockdown restrictions began.

It also found that 58% of parents admitted that their children have driven them to be more sustainable.

Buying canned food to cut down on food waste by 27% is “another way households have improved”.
