The company, which is notable for being an offshoot of the Northern Ireland retailer and wholesaler of the same name, put its one millionth ESEL into Filco Supermarkets. Filco is based in South Wales.

The rapid advance of ESELs in recent years has helped cut down on the amount of time store staff need to spend changing prices manually.

Darren Nickels, retail technology operations director at Henderson Technology, said: “ESELs are the first step in digitising the in-store shopping experience.

“This cutting-edge technology not only enhances operational efficiency but also elevates the shopping experience for shoppers.

“ESELs are playing a crucial role in shaping the future of retail. They allow stores to innovate and adapt to changing consumer needs, while at the same time providing customers with a seamless shopping experience.”

Henderson Technology installed its first ESEL into Smyth’s Eurospar in Ballymoney in 2019 and five years later the EPOS company has put its technology into 220 convenience and forecourt stores, the latest of which is Filco.

Filco Supermarkets director, Matthew Hunt, added: “Installing ESELs from EDGEPoS has been a real positive influence in our stores. It has been so well-received by all our staff that it’s opened the door for us to embrace additional retail technology.

“Staff are very happy with their ease of use; making their jobs easier, saving them time and ultimately make the store operationally more efficient. Dynamic pricing gives us the opportunity to set up a flexible pricing strategy for certain products at particular times of day. We are excited to see what the future in retail technology holds.”
