Costa Express is introducing a mobile contactless ordering system – enabling shoppers using machines to request their favourite drink from a phone.

The system, which is claimed to be a UK first for coffee equipment, will become available from more than 9,000 Costa Express machines stocked by independent retailers during the autumn.

It will only be activated when a customer is close to the Costa Express machine and will be available to use through the Costa Coffee Club app. Another advantage of the new system during the current epidemic is that shoppers won’t need to touch the screen of the coffee machine

Scott Martin, managing director of Costa Express, said: “Costa Express is synonymous with exceptional coffee on-the-go, so we’re delighted to roll out this state-of-the-art system, which ultimately demonstrates our position as the category leader in intelligent coffee

“The technology is nothing short of a gold-standard level of innovation – a UK first for the coffee machine industry – and we’re proud to lead the charge as our customers enjoy a new and exciting way to order their favourite coffee.

To use the system, shoppers have to register or log-in to an existing account and click on the Express icon on the Costa Coffee Club app. They then scan the QR code, which is located on the Costa Express machine, to browse the range of options available and select the drink of their choice. To complete the contactless experience, payment instructions will be provided on the touch screen of the machine.
