Many companies ask their customers “How likely are you to recommend us to a friend?” However, for most brands, advocacy — positive word of mouth — isn’t the key to revenue growth. Retention and enrichment matter much more. Retention is when current customers continue to buy your products and services. Enrichment is when current customers […

Think about the last time you bought a toothbrush. How long did it take you to decide which toothbrush to buy? Did you research the best toothbrush, read reviews, ask friends and family for their opinion, try the product in-store, and then finally look for the best deal online? Probably not. You likely just picked up a new toothbrush when you were standing in line at the store. Now think about the when you last bought a new TV. The decision-making process was likely quite different.

By Erica Baird and Karen E. Wagner, Lustre There were more than 2,000 store closings in 2017. And there were more retail bankruptcies than in any year since the 1930s. Economists, sociologists and the media bemoan the economic and social havoc wreaked by retail’s decline. But retail stores are part of the character of the streets we walk every day. Online shopping, with no live people and nothing to touch, just isn’t the same experience.

Right now, selling on Amazon is almost too easy. All you have to do is find a product with good margins/demand, list it on Amazon, and it will eventually sell because Amazon’s audience and reach is so vast. When my wife and I first started selling on Amazon several years ago, we sold over 60 units in a matter of 8 days with just 3 products listed online with no reviews. Amazon is seriously that powerful.

PayPal was once one of the most revolutionary pieces of technology in the world. At that time there was not that much interest in PayPal alternatives. It not only allowed you to quickly send and accept money from friends and family, but it ensured that the money was far safer than many of the other options you could choose from. This came in huge once eBay emerged, considering both sellers and buyers were concerned about fraudulent activity.

Companies routinely have Revenue Blind Spots that cost them 20-60% of their revenue. It is like revenue that disappears without you knowing it or seeing it. It is like heat escaping from a poorly insulated home or water leaking from an old bucket. Or like the daily death by a 1000 cuts (think Sears). There are really small ones like a paper cut and others that run much deeper. .

Stacked bar charts are difficult to interpret more often than not. One thing we can do is to use percentages instead of the actual values. Comparing the top and bottom segments becomes easier, but we lose track of the totals, and we still have difficulties with the middle parts. To focus on one category at a time while keeping the others in sight, I implemented an interactive component to move the part of the bars we're interested in at the bottom.

Wake up at an ungodly hour. Drive to the office through total gridlock, streets jammed with other half-asleep commuters. Slog through email after mind-numbing email until the sweet release at five o’clock. Sound terrible? What if, instead of dealing with the monotony and stupor of the rat race to earn a few bucks, you could make money at any time, from anywhere — even while you sleep? That’s the concept behind affiliate marketing.

Optimization is a word that always sounds fancy to throw around. But what does it actually mean? To me it means becoming more efficient at reaching your goal. That means that you should know what your goal is before jumping into tactics. And that’s not different if you want to optimize your Google Shopping campaigns. Do you want to get more clicks, a lower your cost per click, improve your return on ad spend (ROAS) or want to make all your campaigns more profitable?

Marketing personalization isn’t as simple as it used to be. Today, personalizing an email is a lot more than just saying “Hi, [YOUR NAME]” at the start of the message. Your buyers likely expect that, and you have to step up your game to the next level. Deep personalization in ecommerce relies on a combination of dynamic segmentation , smart product recommendations , triggers based on customer behavior, and much more.

By Anna Arwidi, Axis Data is increasingly at the heart of every business. The ability to collect, analyze and derive actionable insights from multiple sources of data in real time can be the difference between winning a customer or seeing them captured by the competition. And retail is no exception. Brick-and-mortar retailers have, in the past, failed to keep pace with their e-Commerce rivals in the capture and use of data to optimize the customer experience.

Option 2: Take a 90% chance of winning $1,000 (and a 10% chance of winning 0)? If you picked option 1 you have a full blown case of loss aversion because the outcome of option 1 and 2 are identical.
